Tyson, Lois. Marxist criticism. Critical Theory Today, Version 3, Number, Routledge. Pg59.

This a book that discusses different theories. The author talks Marxist terminology and beliefs. It

talked about consumerism which I used in my writing. It explained how objects can be bought to

show how much wealth a person has. I am using this source to find a way to incorporate

Marxism into my art piece. Consumerism will play a major part in my art piece.

Silverman, Jonathan. Reading and writing about the media and Advertising. The World Is A Text,

Dean, Rader, broadview, 289.

This book goes over how to write about certain things such as media. It gave ideas about what to

consider when writing about media. This source gave a lot of helpful information on rhetoric in

media. Sympathy is shown in my art piece to show emotion which shows pathos. It help me

think about what other emotions the commercial I chose may cause.

Bergman, Tabe. American Television: Manufacturing Consumerism. The Propaganda Model

Today: Filtering Perception and Awareness Tabe Bergman, Version 8,

Talks about how corporations rule the media through commercials. The source says how the

audience is viewing programming from major companies. This is important because my

argument is that Verizon uses their commercial to control what people think. I drew a television

in my art pieces to show how it is a tool that Verizon uses to make a profit.

Marx, Karl. Days Kapital , Speedbox Press, Jun 2, 2012,

The author talks how products are being charged more than their value. It has a lot of Marxist

idea because it is written by Marx. This relates to my project because I am arguing that the value

of Verizon service is based on emotion. Since Verizon could be seen as a sympathetic company

they might be customers of Verizon because they also want to be seen as sympathetic, this might

make them feel good about themselves.

Verizon, "The Coach Who Wouldn't Be Here" Feb 3, 2019

This is a personal story about how the first responders saved a NFL coach. It is meant to be seen

as support towards the first responders. My project is based on this commercial. I am reviewing

details to see what can be included in my art piece. The commercial shows what I have been

arguing, that emotion can be a way to make a profit.
