1.0 Introduction

The intent of this document is to give a detailed description about fire alarm system
envisaged for the Proposed Adani Mormugao Port terminal (P) Ltd., at Mormugao Port,
Goa. The fire safety design objective for the facility is to provide a level of fire and safety
consistent with recognized fire safety standards.

1.1 Areas Covered & System Description

The following areas will be covered by Analogue addressable fire detection and alarm
system:

 Control Room
 Server Room
 Office area
 UPS Room
 PLC Panel Room
 Battery Room
 Canteen
 Wagon loading Control room
 Truck loading Control room
 Master control Area
 MCC room
 Electrical substation
 Transfer towers and drive houses are covered with surveillance cameras whose
signals / imagery is connected to control room.
 Linear Heat Sensing Cables will be laid for complete length of tunnel, end to end,
with a small overlap at both ends of tunnel.
 Machines will be manned round the clock and as such fire hazard can be detected by
operators.

System Description:

Fire alarm control panel loop configuration is sized, based on the requirement of detectors
and devices in the building. Mater & salve panel shall be proved as per requirement in
camps. Master & salve panel shall be connected in loop. Master & salve panel are give alarm
of entire system.

Fire Detection & Alarm System is a key element of the fire protection system. It is designed
to detect the presence of fire to initiate action. The type of fire alarm system considered is
Analogue Addressable Fire Detection & Alarm System.

The fire alarm system will monitor and display the activation of each device in the system,
including any heat detector, smoke detector, manual call point and all other input device.

Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) shall have its own microprocessor, software and memory.

1.2 System Components:

Detectors:

A Photoelectric (Optical) Detector is a light sensor. When used as a smoke detector, it

includes a light source (incandescent bulb or infrared LED), a lens to collimate the light into
a beam, and a photodiode or other photoelectric sensor at an angle to the beam as a light
detector. In the absence of smoke, the light passes in front of the detector in a straight line.
When smoke enters the optical chamber across the path of the light beam, some light is
scattered by the smoke particles, directing it at the sensor and thus triggering the alarm.

Under fire condition, presence of smoke will trigger the circuit of the detector and will send
a signal to the control panel.

The detector will be vibration and shock proof. When disassembling for cleaning purposes,
its components must not be damaged by static over voltage.

The detector will be so designed as to be resistant to environmental criteria such as air

currents, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and pressure will not cause false alarm due to
the above conditions in normal working atmosphere.

An alarm release will not affect a detector’s good functioning. After resetting the alarm,
the detector will resume operations without readjustments of any kind.

Devices, which take their address from their position of the circuit, are unacceptable
because if devices are later added, existing address descriptors and commands must be
reprogrammed.

Each sensor will be capable of being tested for alarm via command from the Fire Alarm
Control panel (FACP). Each sensor will respond to FACP scan for information for its type
identification.

A Heat Detector is a device that detects heat and can be either electrical or mechanical in
operation. The most common types are the thermocouple and the electro-pneumatic, both
respond to changes in ambient temperature. Typically, if the ambient temperature rises
above a predetermined threshold, then an alarm signal is triggered.

Manual Call Point:

Manual Call Point shall be Pull Station Type. The Manual Pull station is operated by
pushing in the top bar and pulling the handle on the front of the station as far down as it will
go. At this point, the handle locks into place and is easily visible from 15m. Opening the
station with key, placing the handle in the normal upright position and relocking the
station, resets the pull station.

1.2 Design Parameters:

Fire Alarm Panel shall be provided in Sub station -1.

Heat Detectors are considered in Pantry, UPS Room, Battery room and Kitchen areas.

Manual call points & Hooter shall be located near the stairways, lobbies and exit.

The Panel shall have a battery (SMF) back up of 24 hours.

The fire alarm panel one loop shall accommodate Maximum of 125 detectors and 125
devices.

Panel shall have provision of expandable no of loop for accommodation of future

expansion.

The number of loop for respective fire alarm panels shall be decided as per the number of
floors and number of detector / devices.
