Safty&Commissining  Main operations on WWTP overview

1.1 Introduction
Waste Water Treatment System (WWTP) is facility to treat waste water that
occur from AL-MUSSAIB THERMAL POWER PLANT.

Years ago, when sewage and industrial wastewater was dumped into
waterways, a natural process of purification began.
BLACK SEA POWER GENERATING FZCO

First, the sheer volume of clean water in the stream diluted wastes. Bacteria
and other small organisms in the water consumed the sewage and other organic
matter, turning it into new bacterial cells, carbon dioxide and other products.
Today’s higher populations and greater volume of domestic and industrial
wastewater require that communities give nature a helping hand.

One of the most common forms of pollution control in the world is

wastewater treatment.
Most treatment plants were built to clean wastewater for discharge
into streams or other receiving waters

Basically Waste Water Treatment System (WWTP) from AL-MUSSAIB

THERMAL POWER PLANT is an ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) That means
that the WWT System is a process designed for treating the industrial
waste water for its reuse or safe disposal to the environment.

 Influent: Untreated industrial waste water.

 Effluent: Treatedindustrial waste water.
 Sludge: Solid part separated from waste water by ETP.
In spite of the fact that it seems to have considered the main reasons for
waste wate treatment as:

BLACK SEA POWER GENERATING FZCO

 To meet the Standards for emission or discharge of environmental

pollutants from AL-MUSSAIB THERMAL POWER PLANT set by the
government and avoid hefty penalties.

 To safeguard environment against pollution and contribute in

sustainable development
Finally, one of the main reason is:

To clean industry effluent and recycle it for further use (as long as the cleaned
effluent is discharged into the river from where the raw water is taken)

1.1.1 Main steps for WWTP to be completely operable:

 Design of WWTP
There must be considered mainly the followings:
 Quality of wastewater to be treated
 Flow rate
 Types of treatment to be used

 Construction / erection of WWTP

There must be considered mainly the followings:
o Civil Scope of Work
o Mechanical Scope of Work
o Electrial Scope of Work
o I & C Scope of Work
 Commissioning of WWTP
There must be considered mainly the followings:

 Preparatory works / Plannining

 Mechanical Completion verification
 Pre-commissioning
 Commissioning
 Start Up / Initial Operation
 Performance Tests / Functional Tests
 Reliability Run Tests
 Handover of the facility to the beneficiary / Normal operation
