Avid P. 4

Dear Miss Griffiths,

I’ve been able to see the amount of growth that i've made by being part of a program like
Avid. That offers tools, skills, and new opportunities for students like myself that look forward to
going to college and having a career. I have been able to improve in some classes that i've had
trouble in thanks to Tutorial. An example would be my math class where i have most trouble in.
Also i've been able to improve my ability of collaborating thanks to many team building activities
that we've done. Therefor I feel like thats where ive improved the most since i don't really like
working with others. However doing all these different activities helped me get to know my
classmates and have different points of views.
Although i've improved a lot this year i still have a look of areas that i would like to
improve in, one of them being procrastination. Procrastination is something that i do very often
but i'm not proud of it. I don't really know why i do it however i know that no matter what i'll finish
it on time which is what matters. However i do feel that this adds a look of pressure and stress
since i stay up pretty late finishing assignments that i could have done before. Anyhow i would
like to train myself to do my homework right when i get it and not wait last minute. Therefore the
next years of highschool and college this will be my main focus.
After all i have been able to achieve some goals that i had set for freshman year of
highschool. My main one was to maintain a 3.5 gpa or higher. This is really important to me
because it gets me into that mindset that i must have this gpa to do good in school. Also I know
that it makes my parents proud which is something that i always want to do. Furthermore I also
was able to do sports and maintain a decent gpa. This was one of my main goals going into
highschool since i didn't know if i was able to balance everything out and have time for
everything. Even though i did good this school year i still have many goals for the rest of high
school and even some for collage. I would like to continue to be in sports throughout high school
and also be able to keep a good gpa. This is important to me because it will help me learn to
manage my time for when i'm out of school. Also I would like to start taking college classes in
highschool so that i can get a feel for how college might be.
As mentioned before i am very proud of the out come of this year. The fact that I was
able to keep a steady gpa, do sports, and still have family and fun time is very important to me.
ANother thing that i am very proud of is passing my biology class. This was probably one of my
most difficult classes however i did get a lot out of it. I had to learn to get along with others and
work with others for my grade. Although this isn't right in my point of view i learned that in life not
everything is going to be right or go my way. Therefor i do feel that that class helped my gain
new abilities and skills i didn't even know i needed. Also All the PBL nights that I did with my
team members helped my step out of my comfort zone by presenting to others and working in
teams.
Another way that i've seen my growth as a student is the fact that I have learned to take
advantage of the things offered to me through avid. For instance throughout 7th and 8th grade
tutorial seemed like a waste of time to me since my classes were not difficult to me. However
this year I would look forward to tutorial since Iactually need help on certain classes. Tutorial is
just one of the many helpful things that i've gained from avid. Another thing that avid has given
me in the opportunity to travel to different colleges. Including the opportunity to meet people with
similar goals and mindsets as me.
Finally if I could go back to the beginning of the year and do something differently is to
tell myself that no matter how hard anything gets I would be fine. This is because i stressed a lot
about the future and how things would happen. However i've come to realize that no matter how
much you stress over something or someone the outcome will still be the same. Therefore I
would have told myself to enjoy a little more of myself and the people around me instead of
stressing over the future or dwelling on the past.
