JOB TITLE : MINE PLANNER (SHORT-TERM)


GRADE : BAND 6
DEPARTMENT : MINERALS RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

OPERATION : DE BEERS CONSOLIDATED MINES - VENETIA MINE

PURPOSE AND ROLE IN THE BUSINESS:


This job requires the individual to develop short term mine plans within a set of parameters from approved
mine designs, operational constraints and business objectives by sequencing waste removal and ore
extraction to ensure continuity of production output, and sustainability throughout the life of mine.

KEY RESULT AREAS:


The successful candidate will be required to:

 Provide timely plans to the Ore Extraction team to enable achievement of objectives set in the Mine
Business Plans.
 Creation of monthly, quarterly and annual plans, including ore treatment forecasts.
 Ensure compliance to, and monitor effectiveness of Mine Plans by daily engaging with the Ore Extraction
team.
 Reconcile plans to practical considerations and re-calibration where necessary.
 Earthmoving equipment simulation and scenario planning.
 Dumping scheduling, planning and monitoring of the rehabilitation program.
 Identify Continuous Business Improvement opportunities.
 Subscribe to and support the safety, health and environmental programmes.
 Ensure that company policies, procedures and work standards are adhered to and kept up to date.
 Enhance capacity in mine planning through training of junior Mining Engineers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 Grade 12/Std 10/N3 or relevant National NQF level 4 qualification.
 Mining Engineering Diploma, or BSc in Mining Engineering or relevant BTech degree.
 Computer literacy.
 At least 3 years Open Pit Mining experience of which a minimum of 2 years was spent in production or
short term planning environment.
 Knowledge of Xact Short Term Planning Tool will be advantageous.
 Candidate should successfully obtain a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) on the mine.

Knowledge and/or experience of the following will be advantageous
 Good Technical systems skills (knowledge of GEMs, Production Scheduler, or any Short Term Scheduling
software will be an added advantage )
 ECSA or equivalent professional registration will be an added advantage.
