 Born in Paris on 18th January 1949.

 Product designer, Interior designer.

 Enthusiastic draftsman, probably inspired by his father, who worked as an

aircraft designer, as a youngster.

 Set up his first company in 1968 to produce inflatable objects.

 In 1979 he founded the "Starck Product" company.

 He has not only received public acclaim for his amazing building interior designs
but has also proved to be an accomplished Architect and Product designer.
BIOGRAPHY….

Starck‟s approach is always interesting and playful.

Much of his most famous work was produced in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

He has designed everything from toothbrushes, lemon squeezers, lamps

and chairs, to larger items such as motorbikes, boats and so on.

He believes that his role is to create more ‘happiness’ in the world.

He likes to design objects that can be mass produced and are relatively
affordable.

He believes in „honesty‟ and „integrity‟ in design and aims to make products
which are both useful and durable.
MATERIAL / FORMS

Interesting or unusual combinations of materials such as

glass with stone, plastic with aluminum, velvet fabric with
chrome

He sometimes designs items which have a traditional shape but

are made of modern materials.

For example his first business venture was creating inflatable

objects, he also has designed very traditionally shaped chairs
using modern, molded plastic.

His designs are often of curved, round shapes.

 ‘Feminine’ shapes so he uses materials such as

polyamide, resins, soft plastics
INFLUENCES / INSPIRATION

 He is influenced by many things, including the latest fashions and

novelty items /toys.

 Many of his designs are inspired by natural forms as he commonly

uses organic or anthropomorphic shapes as the basis for his designs.

 He travels widely and is also influenced by other cultures, in

particular Japanese simplicity, American streamlining and so many
more.

 He is also interested in Walt Disney characters and cartoons.

STYLE :

He is interested in using bright colors,

feminine shapes and recycled materials.

He wants his designs to be

mass produced and relatively affordable.

His designs tend to look

curvaceous and smoothly textured.

They are very tactile and „stroke-able‟.

From the largest to the smallest item, they have an

aerodynamic appearance (flowing, simplified and smooth).
STARK WITH KARTELL

Phillippe Starck, began designing products for Kartell in the

company‟s uprise in the 80s and 90s.

Mixing the company‟s desire to develop eco-friendly, contemporary

plastic furniture was the beginning of a beautiful partnership.

Utilizing polycarbonate, a plastic that can be broken down for

recycling purposes, these designs began popping up everywhere from
hotels, weddings, restaurants and more.

Philippe Starck has been one of the best-known for

his iconic lucite Louis Ghost chair.

1.Starck released the design for Kartell in 2002

INSPIRED BY LOUIS XVI.
that was a simple, upholstered armchair popularized
during the of Louis XVI and his queen, Marie Antoinette.

2.LOUIS GHOST CHAIR is a single, unbroken piece

created it from polycarbonate plastic. However, unlike
other molded chairs, the Louis Ghost is exceptional
because the plastic is injected into a single mold,
meaning that the entire piece is made in one fell swoop.

3. It inspired a sibling chair, THE VICTORIA

The Louis Ghost proved so popular that it inspired

Starck and Kartell to create another, related chair.

The VICTORIA GHOST is aesthetically very similar to

the Louis, but takes its shape from a baroque style of
seating.

4. IT'S DESIGNED FOR INDOOR-OUTDOOR USE

The Juicy Salif lemon squeezer, designed in 1990, became a cult object in kitchens all over the
world as it stands 29 centimetres high, made from cast and polished aluminium and which was
never intended for use as the citric acid in the lemon discolours the juicer. Starck is rumoured
to have said: "It's not meant to squeeze lemons, it is meant to start conversations."

interior hollow curve of the arms.

The Magic Hole sofa and armchair are perfect for outdoor use-ideal in the garden,

100% made of recycled materials and a good example for our society.
Why We Love Floor & Table Lamps ?

There's something freeing about being able to move furniture around

quickly and easily.

It's the same with portable floor lamps and table lamps.

 Their mobility is a huge benefit when moving around or redecorating to

express a newly discovered design scheme.

 They can immediately change the look of a room without having to

rewire or punch a hole in the wall.

Floor lamps are especially great when it comes to adding ambient lighting,
while table lamps help immensely when it comes to reading or task work at
the desk or couch
