Variation because of the Measurement system – can be because of the equipment or by the operator.
When each part is measured by only one operator ( e.g. Destructive testing)

Components of variation
In MSA the variation can be due to equipment or by the operator. The weightage to each helps
us to decide which area to focus on ( equipment or operator). This is determined by two factors:
Things to remember:
Example reconciliation in the bank the total amount on each day cannot be the
same which means that there is an inherent variation in the data. The variation data in the part
to part section will be the sum of the inherent variation in the process + repeatability variation +
reproducibility variation. Hence this has to be much higher than the gage R&R
b. GRR as a % of tolerance
If less than 10 – OK
10-30 – OK with caution
30 – Reject
c. Tolerance – USL –LSL
d. Tolerance formula - SD of Part to Part x 1.41
GRR
R chart by operator
Seggregated for each operator – per part see the difference between the observation on the same part
by the same operator. Example for part 1 response is 0.65 and 0.6 ( difference 0.05) for operator 1.
Hence marked as 0.5 for the first point.
Calculate the mean for each part by the per operator and plot the same.
Response by Part
Is mapping the entry for each part as observed ( per part there will be 6 observations)
Response by Operator
Shows the mean, median, Q1 and Q3 and the Inter Quartile Range (IQR) for each operator
