PROJECT: Case Study

PRESENTER: JEFFREY TONOG JUMADIAO
COURSE: MAST- GENERAL SCIENCE
SEMESTER: 2nd SY: 2018-2019
SUBJECT: Psycho-Socio Foundation of Education

Case study

1. Give background information about the family-culture, number of children, family income
2. Describe your child greatest strength and accomplishment had to overcome
3. Where there any problems that your child had to overcome?
4. How did your child turn out, overall? Are you proud, disappointed, and worried, etc.?
5. Discuss the parental style of discipline. Was it strict? Inconsistent? Did this have any impact on the
child’s development?
6. Discuss what you feel are the three most important factors in your child outcomes. Do you think
parents made such of difference? Did outside events make a big difference?

The subject of the case study was a seven year old boy. He is the youngest among his
siblings. He came from a simple family with adequate income every month. His father is a farmer
and his mother is a house wife. He has four big brothers and two sisters, three of them are
already professionals. His father stands as the authority and his mother emanate responsibility
of household choir. They live in simple barrio far from the urban places. They resided in a place
which has no access on internet consequently the boy has no exposure to social media such as
Facebook, YouTube, tweeter or any social media platform but he used to play the cellular phones
of his elder siblings. Television and playing games of cellphones borrowed from his brothers are
the only gadgets that entertain him during leisure time.
Compare to his peers, he has more advanced thinking in spite of less exposure to
advanced technologies such as internet. His has more background knowledge of his
environment far enough than his peers considering at his young age. He could utter things which
sounds unfamiliar to his friends that only old people could understand. He can manipulate
cellular phones, tablet, computer, and even operate television at his own pace.
However, as he grows old, one thing make him different from the rest. He is not fond of
socializing with his peers. He thinks differently compared with his friends. He can already
distinguish facts from bluffs so he is not gullible and easily deceived. He is not interested mingling
with other people. You can’t easily make him laugh. He likes to play alone. This attributes seem
to be a problem to his personality since he acts uniquely from the rest of his peers.
The parental style could be possible reason of his personality. His mother is
overprotective that she would not allow his children to play with anyone or without supervision.
His mother is meticulous for every activities he does. The mother afraid for any accident it would
lead if she would let his son play with anyone. She is strict for the games the boy plays. She
doesn’t want his son get scratches or hurt from playing. The mother wants him to play only indoor
with selected toys to play with.
Perhaps the environment nurture the personality of the subject to become more lone and
lack inclination to social interaction. The environment (parent’s style) greatly influence the child
behavior and attitudes towards other people. The outside world such as parental disciple molded
the boy to become what he is used to be.
