The Global Challenge:
Challenge in Pakistan:
In Pakistan, 44% of the population has complete inaccessibility to pure drinking water
throughout their lives. In 2015, 311 children died only in Thar due to the scarcity of clean
water. In KPK and FATA, 40% of deaths occur due to water-borne diseases. An estimated
value is that 250,000 children died in Pakistan due to contaminated drinking water in 5
years. 1 million Diarrhea cases are reported every year in Pakistan. Pakistan is currently
spending 1.3 billion dollars on waterborne disease elimination every year. Per WHO, 25-
30% of Pakistanis admitted to hospitals are due to waterborne bacteria and 60% of total
infant deaths are due to contaminated water.
Our solution:
PakVitae provides lifetime affordable filters that can purify water to 99.9999% without
any power requirement. The company is currently working with NGOs, Army, educational
and health institutes, and micro-entrepreneurs to bring clean affordable water to the
people. We are currently working on following hollow fiber-based products:

Earning the carbon credits:
There is another good factor in this
product and that is the Carbon Credits we
can earn. We are also talking to Carbon
Credit certifying organizations to get all
our projects carbon credit certified.
According to our very conservative and
preliminary calculations, each home filter
can save 7.2 tons of CO2 from going into the environment which can provide carbon
credits of around 250 USD/ filter. This release is due to the fuel burnt for boiling the water
in villages and cities. We are now talking to Gold Standard Foundation in this regard as
well as with Omar Malik from Carbon Pakistan. The authority carrying out this project can
get all these projects carbon accredited which will pay back a handsome amount to do
more projects for the people.
First movers:
Following organizations have already adopted a healthy life ahead with PakVitae:
• Pakistan Army- Pilot running in EME College
• Lahore University of Management Sciences
• Akhuwat Foundation
• Kaavish Foundation
While hundreds of families are using it all around Pakistan and keeping their families
safe from all water borne diseases.
The device will also send this data back to our server and just a single house in a
community can act as our data collection center. This will successfully provide us the
water quality data in different areas of Pakistan as well as the variation in the quality of
water. This data will be shared with the water and sanitation agencies. We believe that
this real-time data will be able to control the spread of any disease-causing contamination

on time. With proper actions, the society will be saved from any catastrophic water born
disease.

Project with public health department:
Currently, there are hundreds of villages, towns, and even cities where thousands of
people die yearly due to water-borne diseases. The previous solutions such as Reverse
Osmosis, Filtration Plants, and Chemical Treatments have failed badly. They are expensive
and difficult to maintain. Most of them were operated without remineralization which
showed an adverse effect on human health due to reduced intake of essential minerals.
In order to overcome this problem, team PakVitae Solutions and Punjab Urban, Housing,
and Public Health Department have developed a solution which can cater the need of the
time. We especially Thank Mr. Salman Yusuf (Add. Secretary Tech) for bringing his
innovative expertise to design this product using PakVitae’s technology. Secretary Mr.
Khurram Agha has been very keen on observing the development and kind of believing in
modern-day science.
Products:
Our clean drinking water wheelies are a package of portable water storage and cleaning
mechanism which can be easily towed to anywhere. We offer 40 Liter Jerry Can that has
strong wheels attached at the bottom to help users fetching water easily from far-flung
sources. The top lid has a push-bottom air pump attached and a tube with which
PakCommunity Filter is connected. After filling the water, the lid can be closed and air-
tightened easily in 4 full turns. The height of this can is 21/2 feet with a tubing of 6 inches.
The filter can be plugged in and out of the tube easily at any time. When the user wants
to drink the water, he/she just needs to push the button 3-4 times and open the filter
mouth. The push button pressurizes the can with air, which then pushes the water out of
the filter, purified to 99.9999%.
Pricing:
1) 50 USD for complete water wheelie set-up
2) 25 USD for tap assembly filter (can be connected to common household tap)
3) 20 USD for filter only
4) 5 USD for Filter Portable Straw
5) 12 USD for Portable filter bottles
6) 50 USD for water coolers/chillers
7) 150 USD for Water Wheelie for women entrepreneurs
8) 5000 USD Urban Water selling setup (15,000 L/day)

Accessories:
• 1 tube to plug in – plug out the water filter
• 1 syringe plunger
• 1 Hole piercer
• 1 silicon cap for the filter (anti-bacterial)
• 1 operation manual with diagrams and Urdu translation.
Precautions:
Once in a month, plug the filter out of the tube, fill its own filtered water in the syringe
and wash it in the reverse flow direction (3-4 times). In a minute, it will be 100% new
again.
Do not freeze it (as the water expands on freezing and can damage the membrane)
Do not pass water hotter than 60’C.
When you remove the filter from the tube, do not dry it. Let the fibers filled with water.
Daily use will increase life as the membrane will remain wet.
Once in a year, dip it in hot vinegar, water and disinfectant solution (washing bleach
powder can be used if Dettol not available) at 50’C for 1 hour and then backwash it with
its own filtered water.
*If all these precautions are taken care of then the life of the filter can be prolonged up to
30 years.

The project is able to provide more than 150,000 liters of water daily to 28,000+ people
with a lifetime of 1.33 billion Liters of clean drinking water. The success of this project has
its roots in proper implementation, proper training of users, checking the systems after 6
months (first time) and then once in 3 years, and maintaining sanitation practices
common. The usage training, course manuals, and on spot testing methods/ training will
be provided to PHED staff before the implementation of this project by our team. Our
company has collaborated with HACH water testing and analysis. HACH is internationally
renowned for providing potable water quality testing kits with highly affordable pricing.
These test kits are precise, accurate, and highly reliable. PakVitae can also help in the
recommendation of proper testing methods/kits for water quality analysis. In order to
create an impact by mitigation of water-borne diseases and to make this project a success
by making sure that every life is healthy and every life is safe; special importance must be
given to sanitation practices. Along with clean drinking water, if sanitation is improper,
and villagers perform unhygienic practices, then the failure is highly plausible. The project
implementation authority (PHED) must make sure that awareness related to proper
sanitation is disseminated to people in a proper manner. A regular check must be
conducted by PHED in order to validate their training results. We are looking forward to
your response. Please feel free to ask any question that you may have on the email
address and phone number provided. We hope our best to provide people of Pakistan
with lifetime clean drinking water at a highly affordable price.
Conclusion:
Our technology revolutionizes the conventional water treatment processes. It is efficient,
highly affordable, and completely reliable, developed and patented in Pakistan and hence
has the potential to reduce the monetary pain of the governmental authorities by 300%
and to reduce waterborne disease burden by 90%.
