Curriculum

The word curriculum is derived from latin word curricula/currere which means a race or the
course of the race.
1. it is the course of the study that will enable the learner to acquire specific knowledge
and skills.
2. it is the detailed plan for instruction set by policy makers.

Need and significance of Curriculum


The scope of the content concerns questions about what to include and what to
exclude as for as the selection of subject matter is concerned. It includes the
broad form, which is the range and extent of each area to be covered. Here
some points consider as significance of curriculum;
1. pupose of education
2. fixing limits
3. development of democratic values
4. development of citizenship
5. development of character
6. satisfactions of needs
7. criteria of suitable teachers
8. selection of suitable methods
9. acquisition of knowledge

Elements of Curriculum

1.)Aims,Goals And Objectives :

Description of overall purposes of curriculum including: outlines and topics.


Paragraph describing why aim is achieving? This section includes assessment of needs,
goals and objectives. The list of learning outcomes expected from participating in
curriculum. This section includes a discussion of how curriculum support national state and
local standard.
2)Subject,Matter/Content:
Designation of what area of content facts that curriculum deals with. This is a further
elaboration of topic and description of aims.
3) Instruction Plan:
Describe the activities the learners are going to engage in and the sequence of those
activities also describes what the teacher is to do. This is like the traditional plan except for
the curriculum it may include more than on lesson.
4) Materials:
It include list of necessary material for successful teaching. They may need books,
papers, chalkboard, calculations and other tools prepare by the curriculum developers.
5) Evaluation /Assessment :
This section include plan for assignment learning and evaluating the curriculum as a
goal. It May include descriptions of natural projects, sample of other elements of assessment.
Also should include plan for evaluating the curriculum as whole include feedback from
learner.
Foundations of Curriculum
The curriculum foundations may be define as those basics forces that influence and shape the
mind of curriculum developers and enhance the content and structure of the curriculum.
The foundation of curriculum can be analysed in the term of :
1. Philosophical foundation of education
2. Historical foundation of education
3. Sociological foundation of education
4. Psychological foundation of education
