“Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has

influenced you.”

Things to consider: As you plan consider all of your classes. Try filling in the blank: I would go
to ____________ even if I didn’t have to. It doesn’t have to be a class in which you’ve earned
good grades- the important thing is you enjoyed the subject and it impacted you in some way.

In my mind, English has to be my favorite subject because of how I have learned to feel about
it over the years. Since middle school, I have always loved Eenglish whether we were
watching a movie and taking notes or to reading a book and finding all the hidden meanings in
the novel. I like to understand all the little meanings in books, or looking at comparisons of
other people's views of a book. It’s interesting to see what others can interpret from a scene
you may have thought meant something else. English is interesting to me because I have
always been in a higher Eenglish class, so I have always been interested in trying to understand
the novel or other people’s writings more in depth. Trying to understand other people’s writing
is another trait that I have gotten from being in an advanced Eenglish class. We go over our
writing, our peers’ writing, and other students’ from different schools writing to try and better
understand all the different types of writing there are. To see someone else’s view on
something is something I love to do, and the fact that I can do that with just someone’s writing
is incredible to me. English has influenced the way I think about things by making me think
harder and deeper about situations or novels. It has taught me to try and understand better, to
make sure I speak talk correctly and use proper grammar. We live in a generation where a lot
of slang is used, and kids don’t really know how to speak correctly talk right. It gives me an
advantage above others because I can speak better to adults and my peers. Grammar is a big
part of communication and to speak properly is a huge advancement for young people. It’s one
thing that adults do notice because speaking properly shows a lot about a person. English is
one thing that I feel a lot of people need to be good at because it is our main way of
communication and trying to understand each other.
