1. Overview
1.1 What does this exercise cover?
Step1: Enhance Mesh Data
Sharpen the edge area and smooth the
overall area of the mesh data.

Step2: Generate Regions


Automatically separate regions based on
features of mesh data.

Step3: Align Mesh to Coordinate –


Auto Method
Using the Align Wizard, align the mesh data
to a recommended coordinate.

Step4: Align Mesh to Coordinate –


Manual Method
Create vectors and a point which are
extracted based on the regions and align
the mesh data using the created Ref.
Geometries.

Step5: Auto Surfacing
Generate surfaces automatically and
execute the Accuracy Analyzer(TM) to
check the deviation between the mesh and
the surfaces.

2. Process
2.1 Step1: Enhance Mesh Data
(1) Import Data.
Choose Insert >Import to import ‘AirBag.stl’ from the following location: ~/INUS T
echnology/rapidform XOS/Sample.

(2) Hide Ref. Planes


Click the icons to hide Front, Top and Right planes.

(3) Enter Mesh Mode


Select the mesh data in the Feature Tree and click the (Mesh) button to enter
the Mesh mode. You can use various tools to make a complete or to enhance a
mesh data.

(4) Enhance Shape


Click the Tools > Mesh Tools > Enhance Shape command to make sharp edges
and to smooth the surfaces of the mesh. Click the (Next Stage) button with
default option.

Check (Enable Realtime Preview) button to see changes whenever you adjust
the slider in Enhance Level. Move the slider to the right and click OK.

(5) Exit Mesh Mode

Click button at the bottom right of Model View to accept changes in the
Mesh mode.

2.2 Step2: Generate Regions


(1) Enter Region Group Mode
Click the (Region Group) icon to enter the Region Group mode.

(2) Auto Segment


If there are no regions on the mesh, The Auto Segment command is automatically
executed. Set the options as shown in the image below and click the OK button.
You can see regions of each feature with different color.

(3) Exit Region Group Mode

Click the icon at the bottom right in the Model View to exit the Region
Group mode.

2.3 Step3: Align Mesh to Coordinate – Auto Method


(1) Align Wizard
Click the Tools > Align > Wizard command to move the mesh data to a coordinate
which is recommended by the application. Click the (Next Stage) button.

(2) Select a Coordinate


The application analyzes the features from regions and shows the candidate
coordinates to align the mesh. Select Coordinate 1 and click the OK button.

2.4 Step4: Align Mesh to Coordinate – Manual Method
(1) Add Vector
Click the (Ref. Vector) on the toolbar to create a vector from the connecting
area in the mesh. Change the Method to Revolving Axis.

Click the (Filter Regions) at the bottom toolbar to select only regions in the
Model View. Select a region as shown in the image below;

Click the OK button. The Vector 1 is created.

(2) Add Vector


In the same way above, create one more vector which is perpendicular to Vector 1.
The Vector 2 is created.

(3) Add Point
Click the (Ref. Point) on the toolbar to create a Ref. Point at the intersection of
two vectors. Change the Method to Intersect 2 Lines.

Click the (Filter Ref. Geometries) at the bottom toolbar to select only Ref.
Geometries in the Model View. Select both the tow vectors and click the OK
button. The Point 1 is created.

(4) Interactive Setup


Click the Tools > Align > Interactive Alignment command. Uncheck the Pre-align
With Global Origin and click the (Next Stage) button.

Check the X-Y-Z option under the Moving.
Click the (Filter Ref. Geometries) at the bottom toolbar to select only Ref.
Geometries in the Model View.
Select the Point 1 as Position,
Select the Vector 1 as Axis X,
Select the Vector 2 as Axis Y.
Change the Target to Origin.

Click the OK button. Now the mesh data gets aligned to a particular user specified
direction.

2.5 Step5: Auto Surfacing


(1) Auto Surfacing
Click the Insert > Surface > Auto Surfacing command. Set the No. Of Surfaces
to 400 which is the total number of surface to-be-created.

Click the (Next Stage) button. You can see a curve network which is editable
on the mesh data. Click the OK button.

Note
You can resize the editing zone by holding the Alt + LMB (Left Mouse Button) and
dragging the mouse.

You can select a point and move it on the mesh to enhance the shape of each
patch surface.

(2) The Final Result


You can see surface which is automatically created by the application.

(3) Check Deviation


If you want to check the deviation between the mesh and the surface, click the
Deviation in the Accuracy Analyzer(TM) pane.
