ABSTRACT
Potato production is determined by the quality of seeds, one of which results in low potato seedlings, namely the
quality of seeds that are not good enough. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a more potential alternative
propagation technique, namely in vitro propagation. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of the
number of books on potato shoot induction and find out the best type of treatment used to produce the best potato
shoot induction. This study aims to determine the effect of the number of nodes on the induction of potato shoots
(Solanum tuberosum L.). This research was conducted from February to April 2019 at the Tissue Culture
Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used as
an experimental design with 3 levels of number of nodes used, namely 1 node, 2 nodes, and 3 nodes. Each treatment
was repeated 8 times and obtained 24 experimental units, in one trial unit had 1 bottle of culture. In 1 bottle there is
1 explant. Placement of each treatment randomly. Murashige and Skoog (MS) media are used as basic media
without the use of growth regulators. Of the 48 explants that succeeded in growing into plantlets 6.
