Week Three - Research

RESEARCH

What did you learn from your From my research I learnt a lot about the difference in the origin
research? of music videos, and how Queens ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
changed the music video industry, this is due to the video having
affects and it being more than just a performance to be used in
Top of the Pops. The Queen hit is over 6 minutes long resulting in it
having a mix a performance and a few subtle effects to class it as
what you’d class a music video today. Another significant music
which defined history was Michael Jacksons ‘Thriller’, because
this was more of a film than a music video. It had amazing effects
for its time allowing it to change the world, and how music videos
changed for the future.

How has the research into your target
audience helped you improve your
ideas?
The research on target audience taught me that from age 16 – 18
the music video genre that people most likely want to watch is
the hip/hop genre. I feel this is because it’s the most popular
genre of music to that age range at the moment, so this results in
more people going to be watching their music videos. So, from
my research, I am going to create a music video with themes
and clothes which my target audience would relate to.

How has the research into your
platform helped you improve your
ideas?
My research into platform allowed me to identify that the main
platform used for music videos is YouTube, this platform is filled
with millions of users every day, it is also great for upcoming
artists to try and get themselves in the public eye, furthermore its
applicable to everyone due too it being free to watch and
upload videos for the world to see. However, Apple Music also
gives opportunity for artists to publish their music and their videos.

How has researching characters and My research into characters and actors has told me that the
actors helped you decide who to videos are typically, of the artist with his mates in the
cast? background, this is something I know I will struggle with as
unfortunately I will not be able to get the artist to perform in my
 video. However, the idea of having friends in the background
acting as people that have known them for years and years, as
this gives more of a personal feeling to the viewer and trying to
present the audience as they do not forget their routes, and
where they’re coming from.

What have you learned from your
test shoots? How will you use these
ideas in your production?
From my test shoots, I have learnt the best shots that can be used
for my music video. I felt that the best shots to be used were close
ups this is because it allows the main actor to stand out when lip
syncing. Also, mid – shots are good when my actor would through
hand signs.

What work do you need to complete To stay on track there are some more test shoots as I would like to
outside of lessons to stay on track? practise more shots outside of lesson, this is because I need to
perfect my camera skills for my music video.
