Five Year Plan

For the next five years of my life I plan to go to college and to start working, after I

graduate from Merced High. I plan to go to a college nearby and get a part time job while I am in

college. I have never had an official job yet, so I think that a part-time job would help me to

become more comfortable in a job environment. As for my living situation for the next five

years, I plan to live with my parents. My parents want to provide for me because they want me to

finish school as soon as possible to then get a job as soon as possible, so that I can start providing

for myself. I plan to complete college as soon as I can to start the career that I will be pursuing

for a majority of my life.

After I graduate from Merced High, I will be attending Stanislaus State University. When

I applied to CSU Stanislaus, I chose to major in nursing to then become a registered nurse. I

chose this school because it is close to home and it has one of the best nursing programs near me.

I got accepted into a few universities and other state universities, but Stanislaus allows me to stay

close to home and it has its nursing program. Being close to home will allow me to not worry

about a new living situation and food costs. I will aim towards a schedule that will keep me in

Turlock for two or three days in a row, to avoid driving between Merced and Turlock too much.

If I am able to do this, I will stay with my relatives that live in Modesto and go back home after

the two or three day school schedule. In addition to limiting the amount of gas that I will be

using, I will be carpooling with my siblings that will and are attending CSU Stanislaus.

As a student at California State University Stanislaus, I plan to get a part-time job at a

retail store in Turlock. Having been to Turlock several times, I am aware of the stores that are

near the college. I would consider working at the TJ Maxx there or even the Target there. If I
decided not to work retail in the future, I would consider working in a healthcare environment. I

feel that working as a receptionist in a medical clinic would be good experience in a healthcare

environment.

Whenever my parents and I talk about college finances, they always let me know that

they will pay for my four years in college. They don’t even want me to consider applying for a

part-time job because they want me to solely focus on school. I am obviously very blessed to

have parents that don’t want me to worry about money, but I do want to help out as much as I

can. I would prefer to start making my own money so that I am not only spending my parents’

money.

During my last year of college, I plan to graduate with a major in nursing to be able to

start a career in registered nursing. After a few years as a registered nurse, I plan to work towards

a master’s degree to become a nurse practitioner. Becoming a nurse practitioner is a career that I

haven’t really known about till just recently. Becoming a registered nurse has been my future

career goal as far as I can remember. I always liked the thought of taking care of others and I

admired what my parents did. I really knew I wanted to become a registered nurse when I took

care of my favorite grandma when she just got out of the hospital and needed home health care. I

have always been fascinated with the medical field and am most interested in the science courses

that I have taken. I just tend to understand science classes more than other courses.

I am very optimistic that I can achieve my goal in becoming a registered nurse, and

possibly a nurse practitioner. I am very determined and hard-working, which I believe is what

you need to be able to pursue the career that you want. I really believe that I will be able to reach

my career goal if I stay focused and in the right path. Knowing that I will always have the
support of my family, I am confident that I will be able to become a registered nurse. I am very

aware that my journey will not be perfect, but I plan to learn from my mistakes on the way and

achieve my goal. .
