Non-hibakusha employers developed a prejudice against the survivors as word got
around that they were prone to all sorts of ailments, and that even those, like Nakamura-san, who

a sense of doom, for it was said that unspeakable diseases might as any time plant nasty flowers

being physically and mentally fit can ward off diseases, maintain a healthy weight, and expand
the years in a lifetime; the list goes on of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, so lets list some of
the ways to be more fit: one could take the stairs instead of the elevator, chose an apple instead
of sweets, ride a bike or walk to places that are close instead of driving; again, there are
thousands of different examples that could be brought to attention, the trick is to maintain
consistency in everyday life.
