Do we ever realize the importance of technology and the role that it plays in our day to

day lives? We rely on it so much in our everyday lives that we never imagine living without it.

Our daily dependence on technology doesn’t make us think about what would happen if it didn’t

exist. We depend on technology for school, work, research, entertainment, etc. Technology

provides an easier and more efficient approach to many different things in our society. It has

connected us in ways that wouldn’t have been possible years ago.

If we didn’t have the technology that we have in today’s modern society, life would be

very different. On an everyday basis, we use technology for communication and interaction with

others. It has helped us communicate with each other on social media through the use of cell

phones, computers, and tablets. If we were only allowed to communicate by using pen and paper,

there would be many advantages and disadvantages in doing so. One disadvantage would be that

there would be an enormous amount of miscommunication. Technology is so convenient,

making it easy to send a quick message to someone, whereas a letter would take longer to send

by mail and receive a response. If I need to research something, I can do that in seconds without

spending hours going through books to find the information that I am searching for. We are also

deprived of the simplest things in life such as sending a greeting card, letter, or postcards. In life,

sometimes we tend to forget the more meaningful aspects of writing, so it would be nice to send
a card to someone every now and then. Overall, if I could only write with pen and paper if would

have its benefits, but at the end of the day it would make communicating very hard because we

would be limited to those two resources.

Technology has brought many people together and closer to one another in many ways,

but it has also drifted them apart from each other. Our social circle would be affected in both

positive and negative ways. A positive aspect would be that we would actually make an effort to

go out and spend time with our loved ones more often if there was no way of virtual

communicating. Those that have family and friends overseas would have a very hard time

communicating with them because it would take so long for them to reach one another. If they

were only limited to writing letters, they would worry about whether their letter reached the

person, or when they were going to receive a letter back. In my life, I personally have a lot of

relatives that live overseas and it's a lot easier to communicate with them through social media.

There were times where we would have to communicate through letters and wait weeks to hear a

response. From having access to technology our everyday lives, we tend to forget to be social

with others in person because we’re so wrapped up in what's happening on Twitter, Instagram,

Facebook, and other social media platforms.

Technology has expanded in major ways when it comes to education due to the fact it has

and continues to make a difference. Textbooks and resources are generally electronically based

and not being able to access that kind of information from the internet would be an obstacle. We

would find different ways to obtain that information that we wish to learn. Personally, having the

technological tools have made a huge impact on my learning experience because it provides

quick access information. It also saves a lot of paper which is beneficial to the environment. It’s
more convenient to have our school work online, so that we can complete all our work on our

computers besides having many sheets of paper from multiple different classes. Having our

school work online allows us to simply submit our assignments through the school's system.

Technology also pays a big role in the work environment. In our day in age, I cannot think of one

job that doesn’t require technology. If there wasn’t any access to technology in the work

environment, then there wouldn't be any emergency systems, hospital equipment, data sharing,

banking systems, air traffic control and so much more. We would have to rebuild the way we

operate in our society. In addition, millions of citizens would be unemployed, including myself. I

apply technology in many ways in the workplace because I work in a warehouse which is 100%

machinery based. In addition, not being able to access technology in school and at work would

be challenging.

Technological devices have become an everyday necessity for us. In my personal life, I

depend on my cell phone more than anything in this world. With my cell phone, I‘m constantly

connected with everything that is going on in my life. Regardless, of where I am or what I need

to do, my cell phone is always in my possession. I am constantly updated of what is happening

around me as well across the world. I rely on my cell phone for a numerous number of things,

such as, my alarm clock, calculator, journal, etc. Being able to access all of these features in one

device is much more convenient than having to write everything on a piece of paper, thus

making buying everything individually unnecessary. With that being said, using technology

saves me money. For example, I can order a weeks' worth of groceries on my device without

actually having to leave my house and spend money on gas.

In conclusion, technology has opened a world of possibilities to all of us. It has helped us

in many ways because it saves money, its more time efficient, more convenient, and has made

learning easier. Society has also benefited from technology simply because of its advancement

over the years. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to live as easily because we rely on it so much.
