HIERARCHICAL ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT

Directions: For the same task that you analyzed for your procedural analysis,
perform a prerequisites analysis. Again, a more complex task will be easier.
That’s why I suggested it in the first place.

1. For the most complex task, identify those skills that are necessary to learn
before being able to perform the complex tasks.
2. For each main skill, identify sub-skills (applying rules or principles)
3. For each sub-skill, identify the concepts required to perform tasks.

Rubrics for assessing Prerequisites Assignment:

3 Adequate breadth of tasks; all required skills listed

2 Some skills missing
1 Very few required skills described

3 Validity, accuracy: How well does analysis correspond to learning task

2 Resembles task as actually performed
1 Represents task in inaccurate, simulated way

3 Consistency in prerequisite level; higher level tasks always over lower-level

2 Level of tasks inconsistent
1 Levels of tasks bear no resemblance to levels in hierarchy

3 All actions in performance terms, activities

2 Some steps stated in knowledge terms
1 Most steps in knowledge terms; few performance terms used
