1. TYPE OF POETRY – Explain the type(s) of interesting poem(s) in the book (narrative,
lyric, humorous, free verse etc.) Explain with examples from the book.
Explain and give examples:
 The poem is a free verse poem

Late lies the wintry sun a-bed,

A frosty, fiery sleepy-head;
Blinks but an hour or two; and then,
A blood-red orange, sets again

2. SUBJECT OF THE POEM(S) Explain the interesting topics and new perspectives the
poems share with the children. Provide 3 examples.
1. The poem talk about the winter time. The name if the poem is Winter-time. Children can talk about
what they love about winter.
2. And tree and house, and hill and lake, and frosted like a wedding cake. It describes how houses,
tree, hill and lake looks like in the winter, children can share if they have seen them in the winter.
3. ‘black are my step on silver sod” the children can talk about how they step look in the snow and
what they like to do with the snow.
3. LANGUAGE –Explain how the poems encourages children to play with words and
expand their imaginations. Provide 4 examples
1. The poem uses the words “comforter” and “sod” and at the end of the poem it explains what those
words mean.
2. It uses a variety of different words. The words are easy for children to understand. “The colder
countries round the door”.
3. Children can discuss how the sky look in the winter “before the stars have left the skies”.
4. it uses short sentences and short verses of four lines. This can help each child to understand each
paragraph.
4. PERSONAL CONNECTIONS –Explain how the poems create an emotional response
for the child that encourages repeated readings. Explain with examples from the
poems.
Explain with examples:
 The cold wind burns my face, and blows its frosty pepper up my nose. Children can
discuss if the have experience something similar to what the book is describing.

5. ILLUSTRATION – visual elements, design, page layout, word placement, art and/or
photography. Choose a 2-page spread and evaluate illustration with the following:
Visual elements
Line: it uses a combination of straight and curve line.
Shape: The author use circle and diamond, and start shape to make the snowflake, it also uses
rectangle for the shape of the sled.
Texture: The author uses a very soft texture on the picture.
Color: light green, white, light brown, white, yellow, red, purple and gray.
Page design and word placement, use of white/dark space, text placement and font:
Explain how illustrations relate to poem content:
 The illustration covers both pages in one page the author places the text. One page is
cover just by a picture the background of both pages is white and a little bit of gray.
