To whom it may concern,

Today is a very gratifying day for me because I have been given the pleasure to write a letter of
recommendation for one of the finest young ladies I have taught in the 23 years of my teaching career. There is
also another reason this day is so gratifying, Ms. Emma Jenkins is committing to enter into a profession that is
under appreciated by many, to become an educator.

Allow me to tell you about my first encounter with Ms. Jenkins. This school year, 2018-19, is the first year
I have had the pleasure of having Emma in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program but I
first notice Ms. Jenkins her sophomore year. I was walking down the hallway during the class change, when I
noticed a special needs student approach this young lady and her friends. He stopped one of the young ladies and
handed her a note. She graciously received the note with a, “aww thank you”. The special needs student waited for
her to open the letter but the young lady was headed to class. She promised him that she would read the letter and
she would see him later. She gave him a friendly hug and moved on to class. The young man was left with a smile
and proceeded on to class. I did not know Emma before this moment but I was extremely impressed with her
handling of this exchange. She was very friendly with the young man and seemed so sincere. She did not make
any gestures of irritation and treated the young man with so much dignity and class.

Emma Jenkins joined the AVID Program this year, a student with a high GPA. I wondered why she wanted
to be in AVID. The answer is, she wanted to better prepare herself for college. I also found out that the reason her
grades were so good is because she is a hard worker and conscientious about her work product. Everything doesn’t
come easy for her but she is highly motivated to become a future teacher and can use her challenges to help her
students in the future. Within the AVID Program, we conduct peer tutorials twice a week. During the tutorials,
Emma is a facilitator and is always helpful to her tutorial group. Her peers gravitate to her because of her
willingness to assist them and her patience to see them solve their problems.

Ms. Emma Jenkins is going to be a great teacher. She has a passion to help people, particularly children.
She volunteers at New Castle Elementary, peer tutors, and has such a warm welcoming persona that helps create a
great environment to learn. Emma is exactly what this profession is looking for when considering the future of the
educational system. I recommend Ms. Emma Jenkins with highest of regards. If there are any questions or
concerns, please feel free to contact me, Work (757) 648-5500 or Cell (757) 478-9001.

Sincerely,

Dwight Robinson
