The term Science is actually used in a broad sense and it has two forms under its umbrella: Pure
Science and Applied Science. Again science can be divided into two more sub categories namely:
Maths category and Biology category. There are various graduation and professional courses
available to the students as career after 12th science. Choosing a career options after
12th science is very promising as the scope for science student is very high and opportunities
are always knocking at the door if they select right field of career matching with their natural
talent. According to now-a-days market trend professionals with science background are always
on high demand not only in home but also in abroad. The two most popular and most
sought career options after 12th science in India are Engineering and Medical.

For those who has a keen interest in Medical can opt for courses: MBBS or Bachelor of Medicine
and Bachelor of Surgery. Those who wish to have a career in biology will surely agree this to be
the best career option. Other options available in the Medical Field are: BDS (Bachelor of Dental

Not all students who choose Medical stream as a career option after 12th pcb stream wish to
become doctors or dentists. In Indian society, it is an auto assumed scenario. If a child opts for
12th science stream (PCB), society starts to believe and see them as future doctors. Due to this
false impression, in most of the cases, students are forced to appear for medical entrance exams
even if they don’t wish to. Sometimes, it is misleading as students themselves also start believing
that they must become a doctor, or dentist. Lack of professional guidance results into disasters as
when students realize that they are just running behind the crowd, they have already lost good
amount of time.

Here, I am shifting the focus from MBBS and BDS to “OTHER CAREER OPTIONS in LIFE
SCIENCES” and listing out some of the possible career options for 12th Science Stream students
who like to study life sciences but do not wish to become doctors.

Students with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at 10+2 can opt for career in Life Sciences. If you
are choosing career in Life Science, then some of the courses that can be considered for
graduation are:

1. Bachelor courses (B. Sc.) in core Life Science subjects, that include specialization in Zoology,
Botany, Geology, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biomedical engineering, Genetics
or Page on b.sc General.
2. Bachelor courses in Applied sciences: Biotechnology, Forensic Sciences and criminology,
Bioinformatics
3. Bachelor course in Pharmacy (B Pharma)
4. Bachelor of Science : Nursing
5. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture: Agricultural Meteorology, Agronomy
6. Bachelor of Science in Food Technology
7. Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Wood Technology
8. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Fish and Fisheries
9. Bachelor of Physiotherapy

[EXCERPT] Vineet Raj Kapoor's answer to What are the different career option after class 12th?

If you are confused about careers after 12th/ graduation, there are a few ways to approach this.
One, is to go for a career counsellor who would take parametric tests and identify your strengths
and weaknesses and advise career categories to attempt. Also, if you are very good with, and like
maths and programming, you may opt for Computers (BTech or BCA) or if you are good in
Biological Sciences you could opt for Medical or Pharmaceuticals. Whereas, if you are good with
Drawing and Creative opt for Design (Animation, VFX, Games, Fashion). If you are good with
words become a writer (content, news, fiction, ads) or director. If you are good with keeping
records go for Accounts or Stats or administration. If you are good with logic and have patience
go for Law. If you are good at memorizing and love nature and are caring go for medical. If you
are good with people and are quick with decisions, go for Management. If you are good with
nothing become a politician (haha, pun intended - actually you need very good insight into future
for this). Wish you the best for your career. Remember, your Career is a resultant of your
knowledge combined with your passion and expression ability.

Choosing the right path after your high school is really important, as it will decide your future.

First decide Your long term goals, what you actually want to do in life and choose the path, that
can help you achieve your goals rather than choosing anything that looks tempting but do not
match with your goals.

Another important point specially for biology students is that during their schooling, they
spend most of their time with biology and they are so much in love with biology that they think
that they will pursue graduation with biology as the core and they try to figure out the courses
related to biology only and most of the students want to become doctor but as the seats are
limited only few could sail through and other students choose anything like biotechnology or
biomedical without thinking about their long term goals and the outcome of that course.

So instead, first decide your goal and which course can help you in guiding towards your goal
and do not hesitate, if , your goal matches with a course outside science as some students think
that their knowledge of science and hard work of two years will be wasted but, instead of
regretting after graduation its better to change stream now only.
And if, you have finally decided that you want to pursue a career in biology only, then there are
many fields to choose from

 You can give entrance of ICAR, for a career in agriculture research and the scope is
quite good.
 B.tech in biotechnology or biomedical, although the scope is limited and you can get a
good job after masters.
 Paramedical like bachelor of physiotherapy.
 Bachelors particularly in botany, zoology, biomedical and many more options to
choose from.
 specialization in radiology, even AIIMS has special courses for this.
 verternary sciences.
And you can choose specialization out of biology as b.tech in computer science or any other
field, b.sc in physics, chemistry and so.

Choose wisely!!

The best career option is the one for which you have passion. If you have interest in medicine
then study medicine, if you have interest in nutrition and fitness then study nutrition. I have

First are the dental and medical examinations conducted by various bodies. Also AYUSH
(Ayurvedic-Unani-Homeopathy) doctor medical entrances come in this too.

Second are the entrances to non-medical foelds like BPT (who work as physiotherapists in
hospitals), BPharma, DPharma (Chemist diploma and degree), BSc in various applied sciences
etc.

Third are the courses offered by universities on the basis of class 12 th marks (Anthropology,
Zoology, Botany, Nursing etc.)

You can also go for courses which a commerce or arts student can.
