Scholar’s Challenge #6
Choice A PSAL Playoff !
Sheepshead Bay football team has a home game coming . They have 800 tickets
available to be sold for the game , before the game day each ticket cost $6 and on
the actual game day each ticket sold for $9 . Their goal to get at least $5000
from 800 tickets that is sold before the game day and on the game day. So the
problem is asking me to find out how many tickets were sold before the game day
In this problem they saying that “the team has the a goal to raise at least
$5000 “ so it’s equal to $5000 or greater than $5000. And we don’t know how
many tickets were sold before the game day and on the actual game day so I have
to find how many tickets they sold before the game day and on the game day . So I
will use a guess and check to solve this problem and then equation .
I used a table to do guess and check to solve this problem but their is another
way I can also use to solve this problem which is with equations.
My equations would be :
x + y = 800
9x + 9y = 7200
9x + 9 Y = 7200
6x + 9y = 5000
3x=2200
3 3
X =733.333333333 x = 733
733 x 6 = 4398
So now I know that they sold 733 tickets before the actual game day and they
earned $4398 for 733 sold tickets .Now I have to find how many tickets were sold
on the actual game day and how much money they earned from the rest tickets.
6x + 9y = 5000
6(733) + 9y = 5000
4398 + 9y = 5000
4398 4398
9y = 602
9 9
Y = 66. 888888 = 67
67 x 9 = 603
I found x which is the tickets sold before the game day by using substitution
and my answer was 733 tickets and $ 4398 . It was the 733 tickets were sold
before the game and $4398 was earned . For y I used elimination and my answer
was 67 tickets were sold on the game day and $ 603 was earned . Then I added
733 + 67 because it’s the total of 800 tickets were sold for the game and I
added $ 4398 + $ 603 and I got $5001 was earned from total of sold tickets .
