Assignment

The following exam has been designed to assess the student’s ability to utilise 3d
modelling features and processes in Autodesk Inventor. Attached are working
drawings for a mirror. Students must complete the mirror using the Bottom Up
modelling methodology. Bottom Up Modelling entails placing existing parts and
subassemblies into an assembly file and positioning the components by applying
assembly constraints. All components illustrated on the drawings must be
created, then placed and constrained in an assemble file. Students may mirror
components from the assembly file if instructed from the drawings.

Each part file must be created and saved to the project folder. Students must
then create an assembly and apply the correct constraints to the parts to ensure
the model is fully constrained.

Students must create a folder on the desktop using the naming system below:

Student No_CADCAM_CA2_2019

Students must then create a new Inventor project using the same name and set
the created folder as the project folder. Failure to do this correctly will result in
model errors when opening files and will lead to a loss of marks.

If the project is created correctly all model files will be created in the project
folder. Students must save the project folder to a zip file and upload to the
correct Learnonline link on the CADCAM page.

Students will be allowed 120 minutes to complete the assignment. Please save
material regularly and ensure your zipped project folder is uploaded to
Learnonline immediately after the allowed time has elapsed.

The liability is on students to check and save their own work. Should students

Instructions

Students should utilise all basic and advanced modelling techniques as

demonstrated during labs and tutorials. Students should begin modelling
components as they are laid out in the drawings.

Assessment will be based on the student’s ability to utilise the advanced

modelling techniques demonstrated during lab tutorials, along with the
completeness of the model and correct use of 3d modelling features.

Ensure you return drawings and brief to the lecturer or exam

invigilator after completing the exam.
