THE HANDS THAT ROCK THE CRADLE RULES THE WORLD

Since inception of civilisation men and women have been the two pillars striving together for their betterment. Gradually,
with the passage of time, men, because of their physical dominance, took over the responsibilities and women somehow
were confined to their homes. The need for women empowerment arises out of this subordinate status that they have
been subjected to. Here the question is - What is Women Empowerment? – Women empowerment implies the abilities
in women to take decisions with regard to their lives and work.

The subject of empowerment of women has become a topic of intense discussion all over the world for the last few
decades. Many reformers like Raja Rammohan Roy, Jyotiba Phule, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar etc. tried to improve women’s
condition by their efforts in the past. At present many agencies of the United Nations in their report, have emphasized
that the gender issue is to be given utmost priority and the whole world is working on it.

The only thing that can empower women is education. It goes without saying – “Educate a man and you educate an
individual. Educate a woman and you educate a family”. Education is the best facilitator that let women know their
importance. Malala Yousafzai (Nobel Peace Prize recipient) is the most recent example of a young girl who fought for girl
child education. Education can enhance creative thinking.

The growing access to the web in the late 20th century has allowed women to empower themselves by using various tools
on the Internet. Through, online activities, women are able to empower themselves by organizing campaigns and voicing
their opinions for rights to equality.

It remains a fact that women must take up the cudgels in their own hand and fight for their rights and emerge as winners.

 CLIMATE CHANGE

Global climate change has emerged as one of the most significant threats and challenges of our time. The study of
climate change is somewhat new. The issue has been the object of scientific inquiry for many decades. We are already
experiencing its adverse effects that directly or indirectly affect our life.
There has been a serious concern for the anthropogenic climate change that has already been addressed for over twenty
years. There is also a historical perspective to the issue as well. Carbon dioxide is required to keep the planet warm and
conducive to life, the hyper-accumulation of such gases results due to burning of fossil fuels and clearing of forest, which
has disruptive effects on the climate. Solar radiation is being trapped due to this and the planet will soon freeze because
the insulating properties are exhausted and warming ensues.
Places like Greenland are the worst affected. The UN has articles regarding it starting from 4 to 31 A, 31 B and 413,
46235, 67128, 6a -128, 76128 and others. The provisions cannot be changed unilaterally and require the consent of all
the members.

SHINNING KARENITES OUTSHINE OPPONENTS

Labour and dedication to a cause never go in vain. As a matter of fact, these two virtues are inherent and the most
important constituents of success. This irrefutable fact got personified when a bunch of promising Karenites got an
opportunity to showcase their talent in the LIT-FEST organised by Litera Valley School in 2018. The team comprising Vyom
Ranjan – IX L and Aditya X A literally trounced the opposition and bagged the coveted 1st prize in the G. K. Quiz Contest
held during the Lit – Fest. Such a stupendous success cannot be had unless and until a conducive atmosphere is provided,
which St. Karen’s High School always does by giving adequate exposure to budding Karenites by organising Intra and Inter
School Quiz Competition.
