Democracy

I believe in Democracy. I believe that in each individual's soul is the desire to have the

freedom to make its own decisions; taking away this basic freedom is cruel. I believe that

Democracy is the foundation that will help create fairer laws and a more prosperous future for

everyone.

In order for Democracy to function to its fullest potential it is necessary for everyone to

vote. It is the duty of every citizen to get educated with the facts so he or she can make the best

decision in the polls. People might think their votes do not matter, but votes can shape economic,

foreign, and social policies that can have dramatic consequences on people's daily lives. In 1868,

laws known as black codes were passed to intentionally suppress African Americans’ freedoms.

Specifically in Florida a law known as the “Felony Disenfranchisement Act’’ passed which

prohibited felons from the right to vote - no matter how small the crime was. It was used to

disenfranchise and intimate new black voters, which led to mass incarceration of African

Americans that deliberately left them voiceless within their communities. As voters in a

democracy, it's our job to try to inform ourselves on what we are voting on .

When obama got sworn in in 2009 it demonstrated to me how important voting can be.

His confirmation brought a change of policies and reforms in my community that left me with

great hope and optimism for voting in the future. In 2018 I got my first chance to vote in an

election. It was a day that I will never forget. I spent an entire day researching about the

proposition on renewable energy that I was going to vote on. Also, in Florida people voted for

Proposition 4 to restore the right to vote to millions of former felons. By voting and educating

ourselves we have a say in the future of our lives, and the future of the country.

‘’Men, their rights, and nothing more; women, their rights, and nothing less’’ Sussan B.

Anthony was a woman who fought tirelessly to get equal voting rights for women. Democracy

gives people the courage to fight for what they believe in regardless of wealth, gender and race.

I believe democracy is the best political system ever created. It gives all of its citizens an

equal opportunity to participate in the creation of a society that helps form a fairer and a more

prosperous future for everyone. Democracy has been the at the vanguard protecting human rights

and helping in humanitarian crises, as well as a supporting countless groups around the world

that fight for freedom. One of the clearest examples of democracy aiding people in the fight for

freedom was the Korean War in which the United Nations got directly involved to help the South

Korean government fight off the communist dictatorship of North Korea. Many brave

servicemen and women put their lives on the line and died to give this fundamental freedom to

people that they never had met.

The difference between democracy and a dictatorship is very clear. North Korea still

remains a directorship. Under dictatorship rule, the citizens are not allowed to choose their

leader; instead, it is the government or ruler that chooses its own leader or successor. It is a

political system that has its foot on its citizens’ throats and has total control of its citizens lives.

This control ranges from brainwashing them into how they should think, feel, and act restricting

any form of personal or social expression. It even spreading false or misleading news to present a

false reality that fits its political view and narratives. To the extent that they’ll sensor any

information that contradicts its message and views. If the government believes its citizens are

speaking out or misbehaving it will punish them sending them to prison or labour camps

.However on extreme circumstances it has done horrific things to suppress protects committing

mass murder and chemical attacks. Some of the most evil man in history are dictators as they

have total control of the entry government and laws so it's easy for them to commit horrific

crimes on its own citizens .It is a it is a political system that disaguards what its citizens

think, feel, act and careless evenless about equally opportunity for its citizens

I believe that democracy is the best way of governing even with its flaws. It is system

that genuinely care for its citizens needs and is always trying to archive a more fair world for

everyone.
