COURSE DESIGN

COURSE TITLE : GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE 2

NOMINAL DURATION : 102 hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION :

In this course, students will practice a range of English language skills such as
reading, writing, listening, speaking, as well as other support skills like
presentation and pronunciation skills. Using the English Firsthand Success
as a textbook and online resources, students will practice these skills in a
communicative setting. In addition, students will engage in goal setting, self-
monitoring/reflection and will receive regular feedback from the instructor
throughout the course. This course is aimed at students within the A2 CEFR
band.

TRAINEE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Trainees or students should possess the following requirements:

 Can communicate both oral and written


 Must be computer literate
 With good moral character
 Physically and mentally fit

MODULE TITLE : UTILIZING SPECIALIZED COMMUNICATION SKILLS

MODULE DESCRIPTION : This module covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes
required to use specialized communication skills to meet specific needs of internal and
external clients, conduct interviews, facilitate group discussion, and contribute to the
development of communication strategies.

In this unit, it is also expected that students’ English reading, writing, listening and speaking
skills will improve, as well as their presentation and pronunciation skills. In addition,
vocabulary and grammar knowledge should increase. Students should become more
independent learners through the course’s goal setting, assessments, self- monitoring and
teacher feedback.

NOMINAL DURATION : 3 hours

MODULE DESCRIPTOR : This module defines the competency required to operate a


personal computer by: starting the PC, logging in, using and
working with files, folders and programs, saving work, and
shutting off the PC.

MODULE DESCRIPTOR : This module covers the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed
to communicate effectively in English for everyday use in socio-cultural context. It is also
expected that students’ English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills will improve,
as well as their presentation and pronunciation skills. In addition, vocabulary and grammar
knowledge should increase. Students should become more independent learners through
the course’s goal setting, assessments, self- monitoring and teacher feedback.

What is Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)

 A competency-based curriculum is a framework or guide for the


subsequent detailed development of competencies, associated
methodologies, training and assessment resources.

 The CBC specifies the outcomes which are consistent with the
requirements of the workplace as agreed through the industry or
community consultations.

 CBC can be developed immediately when competency standards exist.

 When competency standards do not exist, curriculum developers need


to clearly define the learning outcomes to be attained. The standard of
performance required must be appropriate to industry and occupational
needs through the industry/enterprise or specified client group
consultations.
