II. Fundamental Management Functions

A. Planning
 Discuss how the company takes action to determine the objectives of the organization
as well as what is necessary to accomplish these objectives.
 Discuss the company’s long-term objectives (targets to be achieved in five to seven
years), intermediate-term objectives (targets to be achieved in one to five years) and
short-term objectives (targets to be achieved in a year or less).
 Choose one from these objectives to explain in more detail and list alternative ways to
reach this objective.
B. Organizing
 Describe the company’s ability to establish orderly use of organizational resources
within the management system
 Provide the organizational chart of the company (Names of the employees for each job
position are not required)
 Is the organization chart of the company based mainly on function, product, geography,
or customer?
 Does this organization chart reflect a division of labor emphasis? Explain.
C. Influencing
 Describe how the company guides the activities of the organization members in
appropriate directions through (1) leading, (2) motivating, (3) considering groups, (4)
communicating, (5) encouraging creativity and innovation, and (6) putting into actions
the core values that exist in the organization.
 Describe the company’s practices in sharing of information as well as feelings and
ideas with other individuals.
D. Controlling
 Discuss how the company put in place control in order to measure whether (1) plans
are being followed or goals are being met, (2) allocation and use of organization
resources is effective and efficient, and (3) respective tasks of every organizational
member are being performed.
 What are the corrective actions of the company to help control the operations of the
organizations and performance of its members?
