Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Bike a Thon

Objectives:
Students will be able to… learn how to properly ride a sports performance bike
Students will be able to…get their bodies into better shape over time by riding bikes
State Standards:

1. HS-5.1 Analyze the health benefits of various physical activities.

2. HS-5.5 Identify the opportunity for social support in various physical activities.

Context: I am teaching this lesson because I want students to be able to see how much riding
a bike for exercise can help your physical health. Before this lesson students will learn all of
the different benefits and ways riding a bike can increase your academic performance.
Students coming into this lesson will mostly know how to ride a bike but they will learn how to
burn the most calories possible. After this lesson, I will look back and have my students reflect
on this lesson to see if there is anything I can do to be better. I will be teaching students about
running after this lesson to progress their physical performance.
Data: During this lesson, the students will not be put into particular groups because they are
all going to be competing against each other to see who can travel the furthest on the bike.
Materials: Peloton Bikes for all students in the class.

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes):
The introduction to this lesson will be very simple and should benefit the students so that they
understand how this bike works for easy access in the future. The lesson will start by all the
students getting onto their bikes and completing the 5-7-minute tutorial on how the bike works
and all if the different feature built into the touch screen of the bike. Once the students complete
the tutorial on how the bike operates I will explain to the students more on what they will
looking to get out of this lesson.
Teacher Directed (10 minutes):
During this period of time I will give a teacher directed tutorial of a whole bike class to show my
students the insides and outs of this bike. The students will be able to understand the benefits and
advantages they will have over other students who do not have access to this great bike.
Collaborative (20-30 minutes):
During this time of the lass the students will engage upon the lesson which will be for the
students to all hop on their bikes and start the pre-loaded workout already programmed onto their
bike. The students will see how far in miles each person goes and whoever comes in the top 10
percent of the class will get an extra 5 points added to their attendance points.
Independent Digital (5-10minutes):
During this time of the class the students will take 5-10 mins at the end of the workout to write in
t heir online journal and reflect upon their workout. They can talk about whatever they want
about the workout as long as they are n=benefiting their selves.
Closure (5-minutes):
During this time of the class the students will all come back from the locker where they will wait
for the bell to ring and to be sent off to their next class and I will talk with them briefly about
what the next day’s lesson is going to be.

(Multimedia 1= App or website): This piece of multimedia will be included because it


is the main website for the peloton bike company and will give the students the best
information towards their bike. This supports my student learning and standards
because the students will be getting themselves into great shape after riding this bike
for multiple lessons. I know of this high quality through personal experience of
working out in my lifetime. This is the latest and greatest technology for riding a bike
and getting a great built in workout. This bike is also able to keep track of calories
burned and distance traveled along with a lot of other nutritional tips.

(Multimedia 2= App, website, video, educational game, song, podcast, etc.): This piece of
multimedia is a great app that will allow students to log everything they eat all day to
keep track of their calories and get their bodies into better shape. This supports my
student learning and standards because my students are getting into much better shape. I
know of this apps high quality because I am a user of this great app every day. This app
will allow for students to see what they eat everyday on a whole new level and they will
hopefully be able to make better diet choices after keeping track of what they eat.
