 In Grade 2, students sorted a collection of money into different denominations, counted the
groups and found the total amount. They only did this for 1 AED coins and a variety of UAE
notes. In Grade 3, students have been introduced to one half and one quarter in their fractions
work and so they are ready to use 50 fils and 25 fils when determining the total amount.

10 minutes  At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher will review the place of
denominator and numerator by using PowerPoint.
 Smartboard  Teacher will draw a picture of a fraction for example, circle.
 The students will write the fraction.

10 minutes.  The teacher will model for the students what is the whole object
and half object.
 Smartboard  The teacher will draw an example of the whole triangle.
 Tr: “this is a whole triangle.”
 Teacher will draw pictures, for example, half pizza and she will ask
the students “who can tell me how many pieces of pizza did I eat?
What is the fraction of the pizza that ate.”
 The teacher will write the fraction of the pizza.
 Then the teacher will draw another pizza with some pieces that
eaten.
 Then the teacher will choose one student randomly to come and
write the fraction of the pizza.
(15 minutes)

Emergent Activity:
 In this activity, the students will work in a group.
 Students will have two cherries and pictures of fraction and fraction.
 Students should match the pictures of the fraction with the right fraction and put it on
the cherries.
 Students will work together and they will swipe the cards when they finish solving.
Developing activity:
 Students will work in pairs.
 They will have pieces of pizza and fractions.
 Students will cut the pizzas depend on the fraction, and they will glue it on A3 paper.
Mastered Activity :
 Students will work in pairs.
 Students will have big pizza and cheeses, tomato, pepperoni, bell pepper, olives, and
mushrooms.
 The first students will organize his/her pizza, and the other student will write the fraction
of each piece of cheese, tomato, pepperoni, bell pepper, olives and mushrooms on a
whiteboard.
 Then the students will swipe.
 When they finish the first student will write fractions, and the other student will organize
the cheese, tomato, pepperoni, bell pepper, olives, and mushrooms on the pizza by using
his partner fractions.
Differentiation activities (Stretch)

 Finish early: the teacher will give the students worksheets.


 SEN: she will have subtraction cards to match.
