The Suzlon One Earth campus is a unique corporate headquarter spread over 10 acres of land in Hadapsar,
Pune,India
It was established in 1995 by Tulsi Tanti.

PROJECT SUZLON ONE EARTH GLOBAL CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS

LOCATION PUNE, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA
SITE AREA 4,53,930 SQ. FT. (10.4 ACRE)
ARCHITECT PROF. CHRISTOPHER BENNINGER
It is a100% renewable energy campus
Suzlon One Earth is a LEED Platinum and GRIHA 5 - star certified building and is one of the greenest corporate campuses
in the world. It is divided into five interconnected, individual buildings that are aptly named after the elements of
nature – Sun, Aqua, Sky, Tree and SEA
Through sustainable practises like rainwater harvesting, on site waste conversion and an “ Office in Garden” design to
maximize daylight use, Suzlon One Earth successfully reduces its operating cost by 35%
Largest green building projects of the country.
ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES
Suzlon One Earth derives its inspiration from large Indian historical
campuses like Fatehpur Sikri and the Meenakshi Temple complex in
Madurai.
Both employ an inter-positioning of open and closed spaces that balances one
another.
Both have strong horizontal elements that tie the complexes together and
accent features that emphasize quadrants and sacred places, like the Gopura at
Meenakshi.
The Panch Mahal at Fatehpur Sikri is a multi-storied structure that maintains its
scale through the employment of modular construction, whose components are
expressed, imparting the structure scale and proportions. In these historical
precedents there are also water bodies and open courtyards, as in Suzlon One
Earth.
It is the need of the hour that architecture should borrow elements of critical
rationalism, with over hangs, louvers, pergolas, courtyards, water and natural
light permeation
The design process started with a premise of creating a central gathering space,
or Brahmasthan, with the sky as its ceiling.
There is a visual access to the large central gardens from everywhere. They act
as visual connectors between all the floors.
The Deepa Stambh is set in the centre of the Suzlon reflecting pool. The pool The
lineal basin links the Brahmasthal to a fountain toward the east. These
auspicious components protect the campus from unwanted influences and
create a central focus and landmark. They bring very Indian features within a
very global, high-tech ambiance.
Large water body in the central court helps in improving the air quality and for
evaporative cooling. All the external landscape areas are brought into the
indoors along the perimeter of the building bringing fresh air, nature and natural
light into the work areas so as to improve productivity of occupants. `
SPECIFIC FEATURES
Specific features of Suzlon ‘One Earth’include:
•Low-energy materials - More than 70 percent of materials used in the interiors have a reduced carbon footprint.
They ensure higher recycled content, have lower embodied energy and are rapidly renewable.
•Renewable energy-based exterior lighting - LED street lighting is powered entirely by renewable energy-based
systems located on the site thus reducing approximately 25 percent of the total lighting load. Ninety percent of
regularly occupied spaces have daylight exposure, thereby saving on artificial lighting.
•Daylight & occupancy sensors - Daylight sensors are used in the workstation area for maximum use of artificial
lighting. Occupancy sensors control task lighting in unoccupied workstations ensuring savings of about 20 percent of
energy costs.
•Efficient ventilation system - Jet fans installed in the basements intermittently push out stale air & bring in fresh air,
saving 50 percent energy as compared to ducted basement ventilation system.
•Storm & rainwater management system - Channels all rain received into a controlled flow, preventing soil erosion and
facilitating removal of silt.

PROJECT PERFORMANCE TARGETS- ENERGY
CARBON NEUTRAL
ZERO NET ENERGY FOR LIGHTNING- A Zero Energy building produces enough renewable
energy to meet its own annual energy consumption requirements, thereby reducing the
use of non renewable energy in the building.
PV SYSTEMS INTEGRATED IN DESIGN- Photovoltaic systems are a renewable energy
technology which transforms the energy from the sun into electricity using
photovoltaics.
MICRO WIND- A wind turbine is the opposite of a fan. Wind turbines use wind to make
electricity. The wind turns the blades, which spin a shaft, which connects to a
generator and makes electricity.
BIOMASS- Biomass is plant or animal material used for energy production, heat
production, or in various industrial processes.
BUILDING PERFORMANCE TARGETS
ENVELOPE PERFORMANCE
Minimal Heat Gain)
100% shaded Glazing during summer
(April- October)
Natural Ventilation Potential in transition spaces
Daylighting (>90% Daylit spaces)
SHADING STRATEGIES

Vertical

diffused light for office spaces.
morning and late evening sun, from North side
INSULATED/ GREEN ROOF
During the winter months it is possible to gain up to an extra 25% insulation in dry conditions by installing a green roof
In the summertime a green roof has the ability to keep properties cooler than bare roofs by average of 15°C.
Given the amount the temperature outside of a building can affect the inside, installing a green roof covering can
reduce the need for artificial cooling systems.
ENVELOPE
High performance glazing

DAY LIGHTING
The orientation of the blocks is such that the
majority of the building façade face north,
south, north west and south – east .This
enables adequate day lighting and glare
control.
EFFICIENT LIGHTING DESIGN
Lighting of individual offices is controlled by
combined daylight and occupancy sensors.
General lighting at 350 lux.
The artificial lights- dimmed up and dimmed
down from 0% to 100% depending on the
adequacy of available daylight to meet the 350
lux requirement.
ENERGY EFFICIENT HVAC SYSTEM
The HVAC system is designed innovatively combining various energy efficient components like pre- cooling of fresh air,
heat recovery/ exchange mechanisms to minimize overall energy consumption.
ENERGY EMBOIDED AND CONSTRUCTION
Embodied energy is the sum of all the energy required to
produce any goods or services, considered as if that energy
was incorporated or 'embodied' in the product itself.
Utilization of fly ash in the building structure.
Use low energy materials in the interiors.
RENEWABLE ENERGY UTILIZATION

BIVP( Building Integrated Photovoltaics)

This system consists of integrating photovoltaics modules
into the building envelope, such as the roof or the facade

Solar panels

generating green power.
7% of the total energy consum-
-ption comes from onsite hybrid
wind turbines and , solar panels
and photovoltaic cells and 93%
of the remaining is from off site
wind turbines.
This building has 154.83 kw
energy incorporated.

All workstations are

equipped with task
lightning which is
governed by motion
sensors lighting.

Reflective pools not only connect

the campus but also create a micro
environment in the campus , cooling the air
ground.
The landscape incorporates the principle of Xeriscape with efficient
water management system.
XERISCAPE
A landscaping method that utilizes water conserving techniques
such as ( use of drought –tolerant plants and efficient irrigation.)

100% rainwater is harvested .

100% of grey water is recycled
via on site seewage treatment
plant into flushing, air cooling
, and landscaping systems.

ENERGY EFFICIENT MEASURES

Use of low VOC( VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS) paints/ adhesives/
sealants.
Minimize Ozone depleting substances
Acceptable outdoor and indoor noise level.
Carpooling. (Carpooling is the quickest and most convenient way to save on gas and reduce air pollution.)
E- charging points (serve 97 vehicles 16.9 % of total vehicle capacity at 1 time.
Zero waste management policy.
