24 Hour Operation:
Number of meals Waste Flow Rate Retention time Storage Factor Interceptor Size
per peak hour Gallon (Hours) (Hour operation) (Capacity in Gallons)

103 5 2.5 3 3863

Total Gallon = 3863/264 = 14.63 cu.m, say 15 cubic meter

16 Hour Operation:
Number of meals Waste Flow Rate Retention time Storage Factor Interceptor Size
per peak hour Gallon (Hours) (Hour operation) (Capacity in Gallons)

103 5 2.5 2 2575

Total Gallon = 3863/264 = 9.75 cu.m, say 10 cubic meter

8 Hour Operation:
Number of meals Waste Flow Rate Retention time Storage Factor Interceptor Size
per peak hour Gallon (Hours) (Hour operation) (Capacity in Gallons)

103 5 2.5 1 1287.5

Total Gallon = 1287.5/264 = 4.87 cu.m, say 5 cubic meter

* 1 cubic meter = 264 Gallons.

Formula:

Number of Meals x Waste Flow x Retention x Storage = Interceptor Size

per peak hours Rate Time Factor (liquid capacity
in gallons)

*Number of meals served per peak hour or maximum seating capacity

Total fixture units 36 2000 gallons

Using the formula:

V = 1.125 + 0.75Q

where V = Liquid volume of the tank in gallons

Q = The daily sewage flow in gallons per day.
1.125 and 0.75 are constant values.

V = 1.125 + 0.75 (2000)

V = 1501.125 gallons

V = 1501.125 gallons 1m3

264 gallons

V = 5.67 m3

For the dimensions of septic tank, the depth is 1.80 meters and the width is 1.50 meter:

Length of the digestion chamber:

L= Volume = 5.67 m3 = 2.10 meters

Width x Depth 1.50 x 1.80

Total length:

L + L = 2.10 + 2.10 = 3.20 meters
