Introduction
The aim of this financial bulletin is to inform registered
and prospective students about the financial contribution
that they make to their academic education at Friedensau
Adventist University.
As a private university run under the auspices of the
Seventh Day Adventist Church, Friedensau Adventist
University receives no state subsidies, but finances itself
from university fees and charges and, to a much greater
extent, from subsidies from the church.
As well as an overview, the following pages also contain Tobias H. Koch, Chancellor

many details on the different fees and services relating to studying, living and eating in Friedensau, as laid
down in the legally valid contracts and regulations. It is, therefore, important that this bulletin is read
carefully during a student's application for a place and used as a source of information during their studies.
A planning sheet makes the personal financial planning of a student's studies easier.
According to its mission statement, Friedensau Adventist University is a campus university. This means that
our teachers, employees and students form a trusting, tolerant, multicultural and cooperative community.
Therefore, in addition to the courses offered, students are also given the opportunity to live on campus.
Anyone who lives in a hall of residence is fed in our cafeteria, which provides vegetarian meals. Living and
studying together finds its basis in our Christian values: the equality of women and men is a basic fact here,
as is respect for other religions, world views and cultures. As a family-friendly university, we want to create
conditions to make it easier to balance studying, work and the family. The spacious layout of the campus
with its natural setting and a public nursery also contribute to this.
If any questions arise relating to the study contract, the financing of studies or the processing of the
payments, we at the Chancellor’s office would be happy to help. All means of communication are
available:

The basis for the university fees is the “Regulations for University Fees and Charges”, which is part of
the study contract and for which certain services are provided. The Adventist University is entitled to
adjust the university fees and charges appropriately every year at the start of the new academic year. 1
The students will be informed of the new fees by 31st August of the current year.
All amounts are quoted in EUR. The contact for all questions relating to the tuition fees is the
Chancellery.

stocked salad bar, a variety of vegetarian meals made from high-quality and, as far as possible, fresh
food and a comfortable dining room are the characteristics of the cafeteria.
The costs of breakfast, dinner and salad are based on what is actually consumed. The midday meal
costs between € 2.90 and € 5.00. Students receive a 15% discount on this marked price in the
cafeteria. With achievement of minimum amount of 100.00 € within 28 days students will get a further

If tuition fees are not paid on time, the university may terminate the study contract. If the obligations
from the rental contract are not met, this may be terminated.
If a payment deadline cannot be observed in an exceptional case, the accounts department must be
informed of this in advance and, at the same time, advised as to when the payment will take place.
In the event of any financial problems, the students may seek options for sufficient financing with the
Chancellor of the university. The consultation with the Chancellor must take place in good time before
registration. Issues cannot be resolved on the date of registration itself.

13. Payment transactions with the university

Payments must be made into the account of Friedensau Adventist University at
Sparkasse Jerichower Land
IBAN DE32 8105 4000 0511 0058 57
BIC NOLADE21JEL.
So that the payments can be assigned efficiently, the matriculation number or the name of the student
must be quoted in the reference for the transfer, in addition to the indication of the purpose of
payment.
Alternatively, cash payments or payments by credit card (visa, Mastercard) are possible at the Cashier's
Office of Friedensau Adventist University.
Three settlement accounts are set up for the processing of payments at Friedensau Adventist
University for each student, a tuition fees account, a cafeteria credit account and a service account.
These are not bank accounts, but settlement accounts in which all the payments made by the student
and all the university fees charged can be seen.
In the tuition fees account, all the payments and charges that are connected to the course are listed.
In the cafeteria credit account, all debts and credits concerning the cafeteria are listed.
In the service account, all the payments and charges that are connected to rent, board and other costs
(e.g. photocopying costs) are listed. At the cafeteria cash desk or at the photocopiers, students can
make cashless payments using their transponder, which is also part of the locking system, and thus
debit their service account.
The student receives statements for his/her settlement accounts every semester. As they are only
internal settlement accounts of the university's Accounts Department, from which no transfers can be
activated, each student also requires his/her own bank account for his/her personal payment
transactions with the university.

14. Admissions procedure and contracts

Admissions procedure
The formal admissions procedure starts with the receipt of the application. The application deadline
for the winter semester for EU citizens is 31st August, for non-EU citizens 30th April.
The complete application includes the application for study, a curriculum vitae, a financing plan and, if
applicable, an application for accommodation. All the application forms are available at
http://www.thh-friedensau.de/apply/.

thh-friedensau.de

After the receipt of the application or the application enquiry, the applicant receives further
information on the admission requirements (interview date, language certificates etc.) as well as a
study contract.
On the basis of the certificates, the initial decision about the academic admission is made by the
Admissions Committee. If the academic admission requirements are available, the Finance Committee
examines the financing plan and approves the admission. If the applicant is admitted, he/she is
informed of this by e-mail or post.
After being informed of his/her admission, the applicant must pay the down payment and the deposit
to Friedensau Adventist University and send the signed study contract to Friedensau Adventist
University by e-mail or post. If the contract is sent by e-mail, the student must bring the original with
him/her to the registration.
After receipt of the payment, applicants from EU-countries receive the letter of admission. At the
same time, the application for Internet access with a data privacy form and network regulations are
sent.
After the receipt of the payment, international applicants from non-EU countries receive the
documents required by the German embassy for a visa application (admission certificate, declaration
of commitment if applicable, health insurance certificate). If the visa is granted, the International
Office/Admissions Office must be informed of this. If the visa is refused, the down payment is
reimbursed.
The Management of the Halls of Residence provides information about the status of the application for
accommodation on request, or if the accommodation cannot be granted e granted as applied to the
beginning of the study.
On the date of registration, the students receive the matriculation certificate and the student card
with a semester ticket. The rental contract is also signed, and the countersigned study contract
handed over. Students from EU countries must provide their health insurance certificate no later than
the date of registration.

Contracts
Before the start of the course, the university concludes contracts with every student which govern the
performance of both parties. These contracts form the basis for the studies, accommodation and
payments. The requirement for the conclusion of the contracts is the admission to a course. A de-
registration (end of the course) also effects a termination of all contracts. If a study contract is
terminated, this results in de-registration. The following contracts are concluded with the university:
Study contract
It forms the basis for studies at Friedensau Adventist University. The Regulations for University Fees
and Charges are part of the contract.
Rental contract
The rental contract is linked to the study contract. Only someone who studies in Friedensau has the
option of living on campus. The rental contract includes the General Rental Terms, which govern the
details of living together.
Students may terminate the contracts at any time with a notice period of 14 days to the end of the
month. This notice period must be observed. The termination must be addressed to the Chancellery or

thh-friedensau.de

the Management of the Halls of Residence. In the event of the termination of the study contract by
the student, the charges in accordance with the Regulations for University are billed.

15. Communication between Friedensau Adventist University and students

For communication between the university and the students, only the e-mail address assigned by the
university is used (MatriculationNo.@stud.thh-friedensau.de). The students are obliged to keep their
valid postal address (semester address) up-to-date in CampusNet.

16. Registration for a new semester

As long as a study contract with Friedensau Adventist University exists, the registration for a new
seminar automatically takes place at the start of the new seminar. The condition for the registration for
a new semester is a balanced tuition fees account.
A registration for a new system without a balanced tuition fees account can only take place under the
following conditions.
1. In the event of a valid hardship provision with a submitted financing plan, if the balance does not fall
short of the balance planned for the hardship case by more than 10%.
2. If records of hours already worked at Friedensau Adventist University or in the retirement home
exist which have not yet been transferred to the account and whose values balance the deficit in the
tuition fees account.
3. In the event of work in third-party companies, either employment contracts or payslips must be
available, whereby the value of the wage must at least balance the deficit in the tuition fees account.
If students are not registered for the new semester, the following applies: The fees for the hall of
residence and the cafeteria must be paid before the termination of the rental contract comes into
effect. Tuition fees are not incurred for the new semester.

Hardship provision
In accordance with the study contract, all fees and charges must be paid on time. In the event of a
negative balance in the tuition fees account, a registration for a new semester is not possible. In
exceptional cases the student can apply for hardship provision. This allows the student to continue
studying with a negative balance. For this, the following conditions must be satisfied:
1. The student prepares a financing plan which shows how he/she will balance his/her account by the
end of the academic year;
2. The negative balance may not exceed € 1,500 in the individual months;
3. The university's Finance Committee makes the decision about the finance plan.
A hardship provision is not possible at the start of a new academic year. The account must then be

17. E-Mail, internet and CampusNet access on the campus

On the campus, students of Friedensau Adventist University have access to the Internet via WiFi or
LAN with their network compatible devices. The requirement for this is the availability of the
application for Internet access and the signed data privacy form.
The access data to the student e-mail (MatriculationNo.@stud.thh-friedensau.de /
Firstname.surname@ stud.thh-friedensau.de) and to CampusNet are prepared upon the punctual
submission of the documents, generally from the date of registration.

18. Financing studies

Each student is responsible for financing their own studies. Good planning is, therefore, necessary.
The Admissions Office or the Chancellor is happy to support the planning. It should not be forgotten
that, in addition to the university fees and charges, the costs of health insurance are incurred and the
costs of personal requirements must be covered.
If a student does not have sufficient means to finance his/her own studies, the following options are
available:
BAföG - German Federal Training Assistance Act
Students at Friedensau Adventist University can apply for a BAföG grant for their university studies.
The BAföG grant helps students under 30 or 35, irrespective of the financial situation of their family, to
be able to complete training according to their aptitudes and interests. Foreigners can receive training
assistance as well as Germans. The concrete requirements for equal treatment depend on their
respective status, e.g. citizenship of other EU states, permanent residence permit, recognition as a
refugee.
The webpage provided the Federal Ministry of Education and Research can be used as an initial guide:
http://www.bafög.de/.

Students – including non-EU foreigners – can generally work in Germany during the semester and in
the lecture-free period to the extent usual for students. In accordance with the statutory regulations,
students may work for no more than 19.5 hours per week during the lecture period in order to not put
their status as students at risk. The work of foreign students is limited according to the specifications in
their visa.
Friedensau Adventist University and the retirement home located on the campus provide jobs for
students to a limited extent (see Working at Friedensau Adventist University).
Grants, scholarships and bursaries
Grants programmes are offered by a variety of institutions. A guide to the grants is provided by the
Federal Ministry of Education and Research at https://www.stipendienlotse.de/.
Friedensau Adventist University itself currently awards three bursaries in collaboration with other
organisations. These bursaries are only awarded to students in the 2nd year or higher who can prove
that they are unable to finance their studies from their own resources. The bursaries only cover part of
the university fees and, therefore, only constitute additional funding. Applications must be submitted
to the Chancellery of Friedensau Adventist University on separate forms by 30th April of a year for the
following academic year
As the funds of the grants are limited and/or have to be applied for annually to the provider of the
funds, the number and the size of the grants is not always the same and cannot be guaranteed. A
financing plan for the studies can, therefore, not take funds from grants into consideration.
The acceptance for a grant only applies for one academic year. Repeat applications can be made. There
is no legal entitlement to receive grants. All grants are awarded by the corresponding selection
committees, in accordance with the conditions for the grants.
Deutschlandstipendium
The selection committee awards students of Friedensau Adventist University with outstanding
academic achievements the DeutschlandSTIPENDIUM from funds of the state and the Friends of
Friedensau International (FFF). Annually, one to three students are awarded € 300.00 of funding per
month. You can find general information on the DeutschlandSTIPENDIUM at
http://www.deutschlandstipendium.de/
DAAD scholarship
The selection committee awards foreign students DAAD scholarships amounting to € 250.00 for the
months of April to December from DAAD and FFF funds.
https://www.daad.de/deutschland/stipendium/hinweise/en/
Ministry grant
The North German and South German Associations of the Seventh Day Adventist Church award tuition
fees grants to students on the B.A. and M.A. Theology degree programmes. This grant funds students
who have the intention to work as a preacher of the Seventh Day Adventists in Germany. If the work is
not taken up after the course, the grant must be returned. The maximum amount of the grant is based
on the amount of the tuition fees. The grants are awarded once a year by a joint grants commission of
Friedensau Adventist University and the associations. The Chancellery is responsible.
ADRA grant
The ADRA Foundation awards grants for the financing of tuition fees of a different amount every year
to students on the International Social Sciences degree programme. The Dean's Office of the Faculty of

Social Sciences is responsible for information and for applications for the ADRA grant at Friedensau
Adventist University.
Sponsoring
One option for financing studies is direct help for the students. The student brings this money as a
personal contribution.
The second option: The sponsor transfers the support to the university's bursary fund via the
Friedensau Adventist Foundation with or without indicating a name (reference, name if applicable,
bursary fund). This money is then awarded within the framework of the university's bursary procedure.
Transfers indicating a name (indication of matriculation number) are credited to the corresponding
tuition fees account. The donations go to the Friedensau Adventist University Foundation at the Bank
für Sozialwirtschaft, DE 53 810 20500 000 1485400, BIC BFSWDE33MAG.
The university recommends transferring money to the university bursary fund (without indicating a
name) to support students. This is the best way to guarantee that the money will reach corresponding
students in a needs-oriented and appropriate manner. However, it is conceivable that some students
will not receive anything from the bursary fund, as it is regularly the case that more bursaries are
received than funds are available. In our opinion, a direct support of students is only to be
recommended if the student has a direct relationship with the sponsor.

19. Students recruiting students

Students who recruit students receive a € 500.00 discount on their tuition fees. More information can
be obtained in the Chancellery or the Deans' Offices.
Participants at volunteer services will get a € 500.00 discount on their tuition fees, if they will start
studies at Friedensau Adventist University directly after their service.

20. Working at Friedensau Adventist University

During the academic year and in the holidays, Friedensau Adventist University provides a limited
number of jobs. The scope of the individual jobs, which are limited to the lecture period (October to
June) of an academic year, generally amounts to between 50 and 275 hours in total for the 9 months.
During the summer holidays, "summer work" is given where possible and required. These are so-called
marginal employment relationships.
The students' work is settled monthly on the basis of time sheets. The wage generally amounts € 8.85
per hour, according to the minimum wage, unless another tariff is generally binding or the student is
working in his/her trained profession. The wage is transferred to the service account. Further details
are set out in the information sheet "Student work at Friedensau Adventist University"; the contact for
