 Integration of space, structure, materials, construction & services
 Part-Whole relationships character.
Content:

 Organization and disposition of spaces.
 Relationship of different functional, service and movement areas.
 Diversity of user groups, circulation routes.
 User group needs and client requirements.
 Influence of culture, climate & technology.
 Site planning/layout/zoning/ circulation.

Project:
Design of an Institution in urban context of medium level complexity with a mix of functions. Analytical case studies of
Institutions in different cultures and time periods may be done as group work.

 Study of the Colonial Architecture in India developed during the British Raj
 Chronological study of the Architectural developments evolved in Europe through the ages from350 A.D to 1750 A.D
Content:
 Colonial architecture in India: Influences from abroad.
 Development of Western Art and Architecture: Early Christian, Byzantine, Medieval (Romanesque) and Gothic.
 Developments in Europe after the medieval period: The Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo.
 The architectural styles and buildings would be discussed in context of their period, geographical / climatic conditions,
economic and political conditions, social and religious customs, construction and technology, building material and
structure.

Acquisition of a critical and formal language to identify, describe, analyze and compare the visual characteristics of various works
using art historical terminology and vocabulary, as well as to cultivate a deeper and more expansive awareness of art to create
visual spaces.

 Study of different Art “isms” such as Abstract Art, Dadaism, Brutalism, and Impressionism
 Demonstrate an understanding of Art Criticism including the description, analyses, interpretation and evaluation of a
given work
 Understanding the importance of art and aesthetics in architecture its symbiotic relationship and application of different

manifestations of art practice.

Focus:
Understanding of the basics of story structure and how the specific storytelling elements such as story structure, theme, plot,
characters and dialogue work in synergy towards the goal of an effective short story and transforming the story into a film.

Contents:
 Reviewing fundamentals that go into an effectively written screenplay and short screenplay -- via lectures, text, and other
reading.
 Watch/read, and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of numerous short films and, from such analysis, learn how to
improve your own writing skills and material.
 Analyze the messages and moods in films as conveyed by shot and angle choices.
 Demonstrate understanding of sequencing by producing in-camera edited sequence.

History of set and backdrop design for performance, Theme Based Design Strategies and Technology Applications. Explore how
to create a make believe environment and to establish intimacy between the performers and the audience in relation to the theatre
and cinema halls.

 Historical Evolution of the stage, degree of encirclement in various types of stage designs such as open air, arena, thrust -
in and proscenium stages
