A Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in English 8

March 9, 2018

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. distinguish the distinctive consonant sounds and read them correctly through
tongue twisters; and

b. perform a game regarding the topic.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Distinguishing the distinctive consonant sounds

Reference:

Materials: laptop, projector, visual aids and activity sheets

III. Procedures

1. Daily Routine

a. Short Prayer

b. Checking of Attendance

c. Submission of Assignment

2. Review of the Past Lesson (

3. Motivation

 The students read the English Pronunciation Challenge on the powerpoint


presentation as a drill before the start of the lesson.
 Tell the students about their reactions/observations as they perform the
exercise.

4. The teacher tells about the connection of the drill and reveals about the topic.
5. Then, the teacher discusses about the elements that can affect or enhance speech.

 Discussion about the primary stress and secondary stress.


 Heteronyms
 Distinctive or critical consonant sounds such as p-f, b-v, t-ɵ, d-ð, s-ʃ and s-z.

6. Then, ask the students to read the examples on each distinctive or critical consonant
sounds.

7. After the discussion and reading of examples, the students answer a short activity to
assess the knowledge regarding the topic.

IV. Evaluation

After the activity, the students distinguish the distinctive consonant sounds and
read them correctly through tongue twisters and have a game.

TWIST IN A TWIST GAME

DIRECTIONS: Pick a paper from a jar/bowl which consists of tongue twisters. These are
the words that you need to use in your performance. At the end of each tongue twisters,
you can see the instruction on how you are going to perform it. Each group have 5 minutes
to prepare for their output.

TONGUE TWISTERS

She sells seashells by the seashore.

The shells she sells are surely seashells.

So if she sells shells on the seashore,

I’m sure she sells seashore sells.

(Perform a short role play. You are in the market and you have a misunderstanding
with the vendor. )

I wish to wish the wish you wish to wish,

But if you wish to wish the witch wishes,

I won’t wish the wish you wish to wish.

( Perform a short role play. You are dreaming of becoming a superstar but you need
to finish your study first. )
Swam swam over the sea.

Swim, swam, swim!

Swan swam back again.

Well swum swan.

( Sing to the tune of “Three Little Ducks” )

Yellow butter, purple jelly, red jam, black bread.

Spread it thick, say it quick!

Yellow butter, purple jelly, red jam, black bread.

Spread it thicker, say it quicker!

Yellow butter, purple jelly, red jam, black bread.

Don’t eat with your mouth full!

( Pretend that you are in the market and buying these items. )

A roper cup of coffee from a copper coffee pot.

( Perform a short play. Pretend that you just woke up in the morning and making a
cup of coffee but you’re younger brother/sister hits the cup. )

I thought, I thought of thinking of thanking you.

( Perform a short role play. Pretend that you’re mother gave you a new pair of
shoes. )

Betty Botter had some butter,

“But”, she said, this butter’s bitter.

If I bake this bitter butter,

It would make my batter bitter.


( Perform a short role play. Pretend that you are in the cooking class and you want
to make a better batter.

V. Assignment

The students search for a tongue twister in the internet. The students study and

memorize it and present in front of the class next meeting.
