Etrius Energy

Etrius energy is a permeating force of power which grants energy, strength, and abilities. It is also the foundation
of life and is the closest thing thematically to a soul. All lifeforms exhibit a varying degree of Etrius energy within them.
This energy is normally invisible and non-detectable and resides within the mind and being of the individual. Upon the
individual’s death, the energy slowly separates from the body where it dissipates back into the environment. During this
period of death, the energy slowly dissipates over time, with the stronger the lifeforce, the longer it takes to dissipate. Once
the lifeforce has completely been absorbed into the environment, the individual is lost and is virtually unrecoverable.

Various forms of undead have been seen and unlike other forms of life, they are one of the few organisms on
planet Etrius they actually have no energy within them at all. They are the very absence of energy itself. In fact what is
known so far is that Etrius energy and the undead have an effect towards each other much like that of mixing acids and
bases. They positivity of the energy annihilates the negativity of the undead. Of course, the undead are few and far
between, yet the fact that they exist at all points to some unseen force or such that drives them. Perhaps in understanding
this, understanding Etrius energy can be furthered.

The fiends are a bit different from everything else within the world. They are definitely possessed of Etrius energy
much like everyday people. However, unlike traditional lifeforms, when fiends are slain, their corpses vanish, as if made
of pure Etrius energy itself. Traditional lifeforms are corporeal beings with a spark of life energy, or Etrius within them.
When they die, the energy seeps slowly outwards in a natural and diffused state. Whereas fiends are themselves very nearly
built of pure energy itself with simple flesh stretched over them. The Etrius energy which seeps from them is hundreds of
times more potent and more concentrated than that of a simple lifeform.

Several places scattered across the surface of Etrius itself have been known to show strong traces of energy as
well. In fact, these locations appeared first, and this is why the energy is called “Etrius Energy” as it seems to be derived
somehow from the planet itself. For whatever reason, these sites, thus far, have served as enormous reserves of power and
influence for whoever taps them. Ironically enough, these sites have served to power the many and varied defensive shields
against the fiends.

Types of Etrius Energy

Etrius Sources (Generic)
These are the batteries of energy which power the abilities of others. Generally speaking, all fiends usually exhibit
at least some Etrius Sources of some type. Etrius Sources are ranked according to their level.

Etrius Sources are unaligned and always neutral in alignment.

Etrius Essences
Essences are another type of Etrius energy. Essences are rarely produced comparatively to Etrius Sources, but
they are much more potent and volatile. Essences are the embodiment of powers and abilities of powerful living
beings. Generally, beings truly defined by their abilities and talents generate Essences upon death. Essences are
potent and can be used as Etrius Source energy if necessary in a pinch. Essences are much more powerful than
Etrius Sources but using them as such would be extremely wasteful.

Essences are generally neutral in alignment though some of the more demanding abilities lend themselves towards
evil or good causes. Certain abilities learned through Essences cannot be improved, or can only be improved by
finding other essences. Some abilities can naturally be improved by using Etrius Sources.

Etrius Emanations
Etrius Emanations are typically lower in power that other forms of energy but not always. They are typically low
frequency or one-shot powers or spells. Emanations cannot sustain power like other types of Etrius energy, but
rather focus all their potential in accomplishing a single objective. Emanations can reproduce in a limited fashion
some ability, potential, knowledge, or skill of a living creature. Sometimes, emanations can briefly form in areas
where powerful or noteworthy skills or events have occurred. Unlike all other forms of energy, emanations can
almost be seen sometimes as by-products of other events. They can form without the death of a living creature
which is what makes them unique.

Emanations can hold with them a characteristic of good or evil, lawfulness or chaoticness depending on the way
they were formed.

Etrius Aspects
 Etrius Aspects are energy fragments which embody certain characteristics. They are quite rare, but hold within
them the basic traits of the creatures that held them. They tend to be associated with the various ability scores as
well as other intangibles such as speed, age, and certain racial characteristics.

Chance of Drawing Etrius

Generally, all fiends have some kind of Etrius energy within them. When a fiend is slain, the energy is released
and unless captured somehow, will quickly return to the planet again. Depending on the nature of the fiend itself however,
and the volatility of the energy within it, sometimes that energy is directly funneled back into the planet, and other times it
lingers to be claimed by individuals talented enough to capture it.
