Position Paper Reflection

Some mistakes I made in my paper was straying away from the position style paper and

doing more informative writing where I would give information on my topic but not explain why

it was an issue and be acknowledged as an issue. I did this a lot in my paper and did a very bad

job, for my next paper I definitely need to improve on my writing in general and also learn to

stop writing in an informative way. I plan to do this by giving myself more time to develop my

paper because I managed my time poorly for this paper and it shows that it was rushed and led to

the informative writing instead of argumentative.

I do not feel like I addressed the project question thoroughly because I feel like if

someone read my paper it would not be good enough to convince them that food insecurity in

India is a major issue. I did understand the project purpose, it was to write an argumentative

paper to convince the reader that my issue is an actual issue and should be considered a human

right. I feel like I was not able to successfully persuade the reader because I wrote a more

informative paper than persuasive. My paper did not represent an academic conversation because

I wrote in an informative style. The peer reviews have always been helpful to me but in this case

they weren't all that helpful not because my reviewers did a bad job but because I did a bad job

writing my rough draft, so despite them doing a good job reviewing my draft I wasn’t able to

fully take advantage of it because I still had a lot left to write. I’ve definitely come to realize that

doing a proper rough draft can make your life so much easier when writing your final draft
because you already have something to write off of instead of completely writing everything

new, also it makes it a lot easier to take advice from the people reviewing your rough draft.

My process for writing the position paper was doing all the smaller stuff leading up to it

like the annotated bibliography, the craap test, and the rough draft. The whole process of leading

up to it is very helpful for somebody who is not good at writing like me but unfortunately I did

not manage my time properly and I did not take advantage of the process and wrote a bad paper.

I discussed the project with my classmates about topics but that's about it. The most helpful part

of the writing process was definitely the annotated bibliography because I already had all my

sources ready to go and they were already checked for credibility. As of now I like the process

we are using in english class I just need to take more advantage of it because I feel like I can

write a good paper if I can really set my mind on it. I think I will need a few more sources for my

solution paper because I want to see a few ideas that others have come up with for food

insecurity in general.
