Bazelon, Emily. "Pregnancy and the Single Woman." Atlantic Monthly, Dec. 2014, pp.

54+. SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com.

“ Pregnancy and the Single Woman” is about why unplanned births are such a problem

than unmarried parents. Most of the times pregnancies are not planned which causes one parent

to not care for the child . People feel as though people should only have kids that they can take

care of and not having any complications doing it. Unplanned pregnancies is the reason why

most people are left to raise the child alone. This will help me in my research because it gives me

good information for one of my questions that I have regarding to my paper.

Berg, Steve. "Valuing the Family: A Perspective." Star Tribune (Minneapolis, MN), 06 Jun. 1993,

pp. 1A+. SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com.

“ A Valuing the Family: A Perspective.” is a article about how kids are forced to grow up faster

than they have to. There are more violence and higher rates of Illness, Parental Neglect, etc who

live in single parent households than kids who live in 2 parent households. Kids are surpassing

childhood fast. The world has become untrusting and losing hope.

This article is a very good reference because it gives a lot of information on how kids are

affected from living in a single parent household. It gives examples on how kids react to having
Bryant 2

only one parent. The focus of my research is the effects of single parent households affect kids.

So far, this article gave me good information that I need.

Brooks, David. "Why Fathers Leave their Children." New York Times, 16 Jun. 2017, pp.

A.27. SIRS Issues Researcher,https://sks.sirs.com.

This article is about how men leave the women to take care of kids on her own. Millions

of children and teenagers grow up without a father. By the time a child is 1 years old half of

couples splits up. When things like that happen the father doesn’t do his role as much. He stops

providing for his child(ren) which causes a effect on the kids and the mother. Most parents that

are not together usually don't get along well and it causes one parent to not be around as much.

Chamie, Joseph. "320 Million Children in Single-Parent Families." Inter Press Service, 15 Oct.

2016. SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com.

This article provides actual percentage rates of kids that live in a single parent household.

Most of the single parents are females. Single parents face very tough challenges with raising

kids on their own. Kids who live in single parent households don't usually get the same financial

needs as kids who have both parents. Single parent families are disadvantaged due to high levels

of unemployment, poor health,etc.

This article is relevant to my topic because it gives real life documentation on how many

kids live in single parent households. What made me interested in this article is that it gave good

information that i can relate to in so many ways or experiences that I seen.

Hanes, Stephanie. "Single Parent Or Poverty? Study Looks at which Affects Good.."

Christian Science Monitor, 28 Jan. 2015. SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com.

This article is about single parents’ financial issues . The article explains how single

parents don’t usually put their kids in any kind of sports or anything due to the fact that they

might can’t afford it. Studies show that due to this it lacks kids’ emotional and health. This article

can help me with my research because it provides information about financial issues single

parents have.

Lawrence, Neal. "What's Happening to our Children?" Midwest Today, Dec. 1993, pp. 6-14.

SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com.

When I read this article it gave me information about how kids who live in single parent

households are being neglected due to their parents either having to work all the time or just not

understanding. Basically due to children feeling they are being neglected by their parent(s)

causes them to feed into violence. This helps me with my research because it ties into my first

article which talks about how kids are violent.

VerBruggen, Robert. "American Families are Broken and Blended." National Review, Nov.

2017.

SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com.

Parent households are often happening due to parents getting a divorce. It tells that there

are both ways that children end up living apart from one of their biological parents. They are

often taken away from their fathers. Two- thirds of people that have children are not married.

Father absence has been linked to a huge variety of social ills. Parents who break up when their

children are young usually have other kids with someone different which blends a family. These

effects have blended family configurations have on kids.

This article will help me with my research because it goes into further detail about my

topic. It gives me clear understanding on how kids react to certain things that they do due to the

fact that they only have one parent in the household.

Armario, Christine. "1 in 4 Children in US Raised by a Single Parent." Tallahassee Democrat, 27

Apr. 2011. SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com.

This article talks about how 1 in 4 children in the United States are being raised in

single parents households. Of the 27 industrialized countries the United States had 25.8 percent

of children being raised in a single parent household. The U.S lack policies to help support

families including children that work and paid maternity leave. Children healthcare and

education is put at risk because of what a single parent can afford.

This article can help me with my paper because it gives information on how kids

healthcare and education are being affected due to only having one parent. This article gives

percentage of ids that live in single parent households across the world. It also talks about how

work labor is very high because most single parents have to work more than one job to provide

for their kids.

Armas, Genaro C. "One-Parent Homes on Rise Beyond U.S." Yuma Daily Sun (Yuma, AZ), 21

Nov. 2001. SIRS Issues Researcher, https://sks.sirs.com.

This article talks about how the government needs to help out more with single

parent households. Single parents think that the government should provide financial assistance

for their child(ren) health care. Most single parents struggle to take care of their kids. Single

parent households increased since the early 2000’s. Single parent households increase most often

in countries where the mom and father were once married.

This article interested me because it was telling how single parent households are being

affected in different parts of the world. It also talked about how single parent households

increased overtime.
