NOTE:
The A318/320 aircraft family is equipped with a high number of digital items of equipment. In most
of the cases, computers may be recovered after an abnormal behavior or a defected fault, either by
a software reset or by interrupting the power supply of its processing parts for a short time. This is
achieved with either the normal flight deck controls by either selecting the related control OFF
then ON or by action on the corresponding circuit breaker.

1. General
2. System Description
C. Lavatory/Galley Ventilation
The lavatory/galley ventilation system supplies the lavatories and galleys with sufficient temperature controlled and
conditioned air. Air flows from the cabin into the lavatories and galleys. Air also flows into the lavatories from the cabin
air distribution and recirculation system through individual air outlets.
The air flows from the lavatories and galleys into an extraction duct in the area of the outflow valve and then out of the
aircraft. An extraction fan gives the necessary airflow.

Architecture of AFS
The AFS comprises two sub-systems:
- Flight Augmentation Computer System
- Flight Management and Guidance Computer system.
These sub-systems include the computers, actuators, control units and associated peripherals.
There are no servo actuators for the autopilot and the autothrust functions.
The system (FMGS) sends the surface deflection commands for the autopilot function to:
- ELAC 1 and ELAC 2 for pitch and roll commands
- FAC 1 and FAC 2 for yaw commands.
The system (FMGS) sends the thrust command for the autothrust function to:
- ECU 1 /EEC 1 (to set the thrust command on the engine 1)
- ECU 2 /EEC 2 (to set the thrust command on the engine 2).
The side stick controllers and the throttle control levers do not move when the autopilot and the A/THR are engaged.

AMM
1. General
The communication system is used for speech communications and optionally for data communications.
The communication system is used for communication between the crew members and between the crew members
and the ground personnel.
It is also used to communicate with the passengers, other aircraft and the ground stations (speech and data).
2. Description
A. Speech Communication
(1) High Frequency (HF) system (Ref. 23-11) (optional system)
This system has two transceivers and their related equipment for long-range voice communications.
D. Interphone
The Interphone system comprises:
E. Audio Integrating
The Audio Integrating System (AIS):
The AIS integrates and manages all audio signals (audio outputs, microphone inputs, sidetone and push-to-talk)
supplied by and sent to the radio communication and radio navigation systems.
This system also provides the SELCAL function and call and flight interphone functions.

24 – ELECTRICAL POWER
AMM
A. Generation
Two Integrated Drive Generators (IDG) normally supply the aircraft electrical power in flight ; each engine
drives one generator.
The APU drives a third, auxiliary, generator (APU GEN) which can replace either main generator (GEN 1
or GEN 2).
The distribution network 2 corresponds to the Alternating Current Bus 2 (AC BUS 2).
The TR 1 powered from the AC BUS 1 supplies through its contactor:
- the Direct Current Bus 1 (DC BUS 1),
- the Direct Current Battery Bus (DC BAT BUS),
- the Direct Current Essential Bus (DC ESS BUS),
- the Direct Current Sheddable Essential Bus (DC SHED ESS BUS).
In case of loss of the TR 1 or the TR 2, a third Essential Transformer Rectifier (ESS TR) powered from the
AC BUS 1, supplies through its contactor:
- the DC ESS BUS,
- the DC SHED ESS BUS.
In certain failure configurations, the AC ESS BUS and the AC SHED ESS BUS plus, via the ESS TR, the
DC ESS BUS and the DC SHED ESS BUS can be supplied by:
- the AC BUS 2 if the AC BUS 1 is lost,
- the CSM/G more especially in emergency configuration or smoke emergency configuration.
Two sheddable AC and DC busbars are powered respectively by the GLC 2 and the TR 2 and controlled
by two contactors. These AC busbars are automatically shedded in the single generator configuration and
the DC busbars in the single generator and single TR configurations.

1. General
A hydromechanical Power Control Unit (PCU) in the fuselage supplies the mechanical power to the flap transmission
system. The PCU has two hydraulic motors. Each motor has a Pressure-Off Brake (POB) and a valve block, which is
electrically controlled.
Torque shafts and gearboxes transmit the mechanical power from the PCU to the offset gearboxes of the actuators.
The offset gearboxes then transmit the power through their torque limiters to the rotary actuators, which move the flap
transmission system.
The torque limiters control the transmission of torque from the offset gearboxes to keep the torque in the specified
limits. The torque limiters prevent the mechanical overload of the rotary actuators.
