Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom:
I would use this online learning project tool by having my students write a creative story. The students would
start by working on this project in class and write a rough draft. They would do this on google docs so that
their classmates can peer review their stories. This incorporates a collaboration site on top of the online
project. This is a great way to get students to learn how to work with other students and accept constructive
criticism.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom?
Each student would need a laptop or computer to work on.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school:
• The students are peer editing their classmate’s stories to ensure that they are submitting the best
work possible.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project):
• They are creating their own original stories and producing an original product.
c. Higher-order thinking:
• They are being creative with elicits higher level thinking.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product:
• The Scholastic “Writing with Writers” website allows students from around the world to read stories
that have been written by other students.

Online Projects, Collaboration Sites and Publishing Opportunities
This lesson is very big on student engagement. The students are allowed to write a story about what they are
interested in.
Representation:
Students would be allowed to use pictures and possibly even videos to tell their story. If a video is used there
would be subtitles on the video.
Action and Expression:
The students are expressing themselves because they are writing a story about something that they came up
with. They are using the creative side of their brains.
Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies:
In order to implement this lesson idea, I would have my students think of a topic that they want to write
their story about. They would then use the google docs tool to begin typing up their story. After they had
written their rough draft, they would share their document with the people at their table so that they can
have their story peer reviewed. This is how they will incorporate collaboration sites. The next step would be
for the students to edit their stories and then upload them to the Scholastic “Writing for Writers” website.
In order to ensure that students are following the Internet Safety Policies, I would have the students use
pen names to write their stories. This way, their personal information is protected. I would also make sure
that my students are only on the websites they are supposed to be using. We, as a class, would also adhere to
all school and state Internet Safety Policies.
Reflective Practice:
This project would impact student learning because they are encouraged to think at higher levels and
collaborate with their classmates. Letting students have the freedom to write a story that lets them be
creative, will encourage them to write. If I were to extend the lesson, I would have the students make a video
of the story they have written using stop motion.
