The Smart Grid is a modernized electric grid that uses the Informa on and Communica on Technology (ICT) referred to as the
next-genera on power system and expected to improve the reliability, resiliency and efficiency of future power systems with
more Renewable Energy sources. In today's world, Reliability requires Cyber Security.
Nowadays, security has become a crucial factor for the success and wide deployment of Smart Grid networks. A Cyber-a ack
on devices that protect power and control the power grid could result in power distribu on and damaged equipment. Risks
from the cyber system as well as non-conven onal physical power system con ngencies start to contribute to the overall grid
security. Cyber security is a growing concern and a key success factor for smart grid deployment
It is therefore impera ve to understand the fundamentals and engineering aspects of cyber-physical mechanisms that
can lead to cri cal failures. Based on this understanding, system designers and operators may implement robust defenses
for a ack detec on, mi ga on, and forensics to improve the grid's reliability and resilience. An understanding of
security vulnerabili es and solu ons in the Smart Grid and future research scope for Smart Grid security will be covered in
this workshop.
The Government of India (GoI) has enacted the policies which support the expansion of Cyber Security concerns in Smart Grid
development.
