Do Police Officers need a College Education?

Do Police Officers need an Education? I think it varies. Police officers should have some

sort of education related to the profession, other than the usual police academy training

that teaches our police officers todeal with the crime they will face out on the street.

Police officers would benefit from added courses in the training or should receive an

education on the college level.

College Education has some pretty good courses that would benefit the profession such

as the social sciences. Police officers should be able to communicate effectivly while on

the job and understand the geogragphic areas they serve. The police academy only

teaches so much in a short period of time, that it is not efficent to cover certain aspects

that are tied into psychology.

Police officers should be able to get an associates as the minimum unless they feel

pursuing a higher degree is in there interest. Being a police officer is not for everyone but

a career that focuses on the public should have an educated sense of the reality of people

that he or she will be dealing with.

Another way to add education without having to get an associates degree would be just

adding it in the police academy training and have the training run a bit longer than what it

already is. Police officers have various ranks and pursuing an education should be a way

to get a promotion to higher ranks and it will help the police department and the officers

peers to want to do more than just be a regualr officer.

In conclusion there are many diffent options for education that could fit in with the

required training without limiting some the most vital parts of an officers time while

serving the public.
