​ In the image, Racial Discrimination In Alabama from ​Mondadori Portfolio​ is about how people 
of color are treated differently than white people and they don’t receive the same things as white 
people. The image shows two different water fountains and the one fountain for white people look 
brand new while the other fountain for colored people rusty and old. The colored people receive a 
horrible quality water fountain while white people get an expensive which shows people of color are 
treated unequally.  
This image was taken to show the message that colored people are not treated equal and they 
get things that are worse than what white people get. The intention is to show that colored people 
should not be treated like that. The image shows discrimination of how colored people don’t get the 
same things as white people. 
This shows lots of unique features that can reveal the tone and mood. One unique feature is 
the colors are very dark in this image which displays a mood of sadness and empathy for people of 
color that are treated differently than white people. Another feature is how the fountain for white 
people looks new and nice but the the fountain for colored people is old and rusty. 
The tone of this photograph is sad. Clues that help determine the tone of the photo is how the 
colors are very dark which represents sadness. The water fountain for colored people is bad quality 
and is worse than the fountain for white people which is an example of black inequality and is sad. 
You can identify that colored people are treated differently just by what type of water fountain they 
receive compared to the one for white people so it is sad they are treated that way. 
This image makes a social commentary because it shows how different deserve the same things 
as white people and should not be treated differently at all. It shows the inequality between 
races.This piece connects to the thesis of the magazine because it shows how being a different race 
you have different privilege rights just like how if you are white you receive luxurious things and if 
you are black you receive things of the worst quality.
