Part 1: Connection (Text to World)

A big issue that I have found while reading was speeding. In the story, Rex decided to drive their
car way past the speed limit. The speedometer needle went completely off of the numbers and
he had his entire family in the car with him. A lot of people do the same thing on highways
because they don’t think there will be any cops out during the night time. So, they speed their
way down the highway risking their lives and others. I get that speeding can be fun and free
feeling for some people, but you are putting so much stuff at risk. In my opinion, speeding is
worse then texting and driving.

Part 2: Significant Quote

“I looked up at the thin swirl of clouds high in the blue Arizona sky. Keeping my eyes fastened on
those distant clouds, I took a breath and said, ‘Do you think you could maybe stop
drinking?’” (Walls 116). I decided to choose this quote because I found it to be really important.
When your daughter wants you to quit drinking, then you should know that it truly affects her life
as well as the rest of your family. Him saying that he will made her really happy but later on down
the road, he messed up and started drinking again. I think this is really important because a lot of
parents do this and they don’t realize how much it affects their children. If your child asks you to
stop, then you at least need to try your best like he did to begin with. He locked himself in his
room for a couple days and tied himself to the bed.

Part 3: Sentence Starter

This part about Rex and Jeannette going into the animal enclosure is unrealistic because no one,
that I know of, would just jump into a cheetah enclosure with a live cheetah. I mean, that’s
common sense not to do that. But, it is also unrealistic because Jeanette said that the cheetah
rubbed up against her like a cat would and licked her hand. A cheetah is said to be like a cat, but
not in the loving ways like that. I know that family lives in a complete different life style than I do
and they dont really care or think before doing anything. But, jumping in a cheetah cage, you
don’t know what could happen in any moment.
