Part 1 Text to self:

The reading of session three was very relatable for me. A lot of it was because the children
learned a lot of things about the world in a hard way or by themselves. Like swimming for
instance, Jeannettes dad took her into the middle of the hot pod and just left her until she
learned how to swim on her own. I had to learn to swim on my own as well. No one in my family
would teach me an easy way so I took it upon myself to learn. Another way it was relatable was
how adventurous the children are. They run wild and free with no care in the world. That use to
be like me when I was younger. I would have no care in the world and it was probably the best
time of my life. I ran barefoot, I didn’t care how I looked or what I wore. But, When you grow up,
life really takes a toll on you and how you were when you were younger. Everything is just so
different and you dont really realize it until its too late.

Part 2: Significant Quote:

“Suddenly, one of moms oil painting came flying through an upstairs window. Next came her
easel. The crowd below scurried back to avoid getting hit. The moms’ feet appeared in the
window, followed by the rest of her body. She was dangling from the second floor, her legs
swinging wildly. Dad was holding her by the arms while she tried to hit him in the face.” (Walls 71)

I picked this quote because it was a quote that had me question a lot. The mother said that the
dad was trying to kill her and watch her die. But the dad was saying she tried jumping. This is the
kind of quote that makes you stop and just question which is the actual truth. Because the dad
seems like the kind of person who has tons of anger issues. But the mom also seems like she’s
tired of living the life that she is because she’s tired of getting blamed for everything. She seems
very depressed so it makes me wonder what the actual truth of that situation was.

Part 3: Sentence Starter:

If I were the mother at this point, I would have taken those kids went to my moms and left the
dad. It seems like the dad likes to live the way of having no food and saying he’s “doing
research” but isn’t. I feel like that’s why the mother seems depressed but is trying to be happy so
her kids will be happy and that’s a lot of pressure. No guy should ever treat a women like he
treats the mother. Especially taking the moms earned money from getting a job!! That makes me
sooooooo mad. If my future husband tries to take the money that I worked my but off for, there is
no way in hell. If he wants money that bad, he can get up off his lazy bum and go get a job.
Sharing money is different but handing money out to your significant other, that’s just messed up.
