Part 1:

A self connection I can make from the story is “The hospital was clean and shiny. Everything
was white—or silver— the beds and trays and medical instruments. Everyone spoke in polite,
calm voices. It was so hushed you could hear the nurses’ rubber soled. Shoes squeaking all the
way down the hall.” (Walls 11). I can connect to this somewhat because I go to the hospital many
times a month but it is never quiet or peaceful. There is always a noise every second. The nurses
and doctors come in to check on me every 30 minutes, even during the night when I am trying to
sleep. Everything in the hospital is neat and very organized and nothing is ever out of place.

Part 2:

“The nurses and doctors kept asking me questions; How did you get burned? Have your
parents ever hurt you? Why do you have all these bruises and cuts?..” (Walls 10). This quote is
very important because while being a young child, you do a lot more dangerous things then you
would when you’re older. While being a child and doing this stuff, ending up in the hospital, you
never realize the damage being done because everyone at the hospital is trying to make sure that
your parents aren’t harming you or putting you in danger. Being a little kid, you dont understand
that. Recently something happened with my boyfriends’ aunts daughter. His aunt was running a
bath and it was very hot so she turned the cold water on. She turned around to get clothes out
for her daughter and she told her not to get in because its scolding hot. When she turned around
for one quick second, her daughter got in the bath and had to go to the hospital because it was
so hot. The doctors sat there asking her little girl question about what happened and if her
parents ever hurt her. She was afraid to tell what actually happened because she was afraid she
would get in trouble for not listening. She never understood that if she didn’t tell them what’s
happened her mom would get in a lot of trouble. But she didn’t understand that because she’s 4.
But eventually, everything got sorted out.

Part 3:

I cant believe that they threw their cat out of the car window and none of them cared. When
reading that party of the book, my heart was so upset and I even cried. I am too loving towards
all animals to read or see things like that. It makes me think how crazy and unloving people are in
this world. We see so many people abusing animals on facebook or the news and it makes my
heart ache
