Science
Kindergarten
K.2 The student will investigate and understand that
humans have senses that allow them to seek, find,
take in, and react or respond to information in order
to learn about their surroundings.
Key concepts include:
a) the five senses and corresponding sensing organs
b) sensory descriptors used to describe common
objects and phenomena.
The students will use Videolicious to create a short
video about all five of their senses and what organs
they use to use the senses.
They will show their nose, eye, tongue, ears, and
fingers to smell, see, taste, hear, and touch things.
They will also describe what they are sensing and
give extra examples to other things that they can
sense.
After they have created the video they will present
to the teacher or if they have time and want to, to
the class.

1st grade
1.4 The student will investigate and understand that
plants have basic life needs and functional parts and
can be classified according to certain characteristics.
Key concepts include:
a) plants need nutrients, air, water, light, and a
place to grow
b) basic parts of plants
c) plants can be classified based on a variety of
characteristics.
The students will use Aurasma to find pictures
related to plants.
The pictures will lead to one of many things such
as, a movie, extra explanation, ling to a website
with more information, etc.
They will be in teams of 2-5 depending on the
amount of time they need to complete it and the
amount of work throughout the day.
This allows them to gain more knowledge and work
together. It also allows them to ask their partners
questions and could lead to group discussion.
