Fine Arts Coordinator
Albemarle County Public Schools

Dear Ms. Moran,

My diverse experiences at James Madison University have made me a competitive
candidate for a music teacher position in my hometown in Albemarle County.

I believe the foundation of any student’s music education should be the ability to
transfer the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom to musical interactions
outside of school. Music has rapidly expanded through numerous advancements in
technology, and these advancements have led to new ways in which people listen
to, share, and create music. Throughout my professional development, I have been
focused on finding a balance between various kinds of musicking within the
traditional ensemble based classroom. My role as a music educator in today’s
technology-driven society is to utilize these new ways of experiencing music and
incorporate them into the classroom, while also engaging students in historical
works and older genres of music.

With a combination of play, experimentation, and guided learning, students should

have opportunities to engage in music through diverse and expansive avenues that
reflect the multitude of ways that music exists in today’s world. My biggest goal as a
music educator is to create a supportive environment that provides students with
these various opportunities and introduces them to the many contexts in which
music exists today.

Thank you for reviewing my application.

Best regards,

Elizabeth Vaughn
