ANIMALS IN DANGER OF
EXTINCTION

The Earth is the only planet with water,

special atmosphere and life.

There are thousands of species of

plants and animals. In fact, about 1960,
Robert Whittaker proposed the
existence of 5 kingdoms: monera,
protista, fungi, plantae and animalia.

Nature has a huge variety of living

beings.

Each plant or animal or bacteria tries

to get new babies, in order to extend its
family and to avoid the natural
extinction.

So, why some animals are in danger

of going extinct? Why (for example) white rhino is extinct?

The problem is not in the planet, in weather or in the species themselves: the real
problem is the mankind.

Along the history and probably for religious ideas, man has assumed he is the
king of the creation, with the capacity of life or dead over the rest of nature
elements.

In our days several animals are about to extinct.

According to One Kind Planet the top 10 of most endangered animals is:

1) Amur leopard 6) Saola

2) Gorillas 7) Vaquita

3) Sea turtles 8) Tiger

4) Orangutan 9) Rhinos

5) Sumatra Elephant 10) Pangolin

Other Web Pages number different species, but the actual problem is not the list:
the true problem is: plants and animals extinction of our planet and our nature. As
all we know, “extinction is forever”.

At this moment, we need to stop and think: Why does the extinction exist?

Extinction means each organism of a species has disappeared forever and in

irreversible way.

Some animals, as dinosaurs, have disappeared whith no man intervention. This

can be called “natural extinction”.

However man came into scene and everything changes: man kills animals in
order to eat them, but for defense and for fun as well.

Just as an example, let us take the gorilla case: Hunters kill gorillas not for hungry
or something thus, but in order to get their hands and use them as an ashtray.
Because of this activity, we believed that the mountain gorillas would be extinct by
the end of the 20th century. Fortunately, that was not true and the remaining
mountain gorilla population is spread out over three countries as Uganda and
Congo (Taken from Miller and Kotecki, 23 ANIMALS IN DANGER).

All this case shows that the mankind is not as rational as we say.

Now, let us take a very Mexican example: the Vaquita.

The sea Vaquita is a cetaceans first discovered in 1958. Some people say that
the Vaquita is “the world’s rarest marine animal”. This animal is a Mexican example
because its population is confined to the Gulf of California and is protected by
Federal Laws of Mexico Government.

In spite of that law Protection, the Vaquita is threatened by global warming

(which may impact habitat conditions and the food chain) and by fishers of
Totoaba, who left their fishing rods abandoned and these affect Vaquita existence.

On the other hand, Totoaba is threatened as well because of its bladder. Some
Chinese men think this organ has aphrodisiac properties and they make all kind of
efforts in order to obtain it. In fact, Totoaba’s bladders is now called “the Sea
Cocaine”.

As we can note, danger of extinction is not an ecological situation, but a human

problem.

We think “we are the kings of the creation and we have the power of kill
everything we need or wish”. Of course, this is wrong.
In most of cases, extinction is a result of vanity or stupidity of human being and
we have to be aware and to teach good ideas to our new generations.

Why thousands of wild animals are being poached on a massive scale

worldwide?

Not for hungry, but for fun. Not for need, buy for stupidity.

Man is not a king, but a simple part of Nature, so we need to share the planet and
its ecosystems.
