THE VALUE OF JESUS CHRIST

Matthew 19: 16 – 26

Intro. Tama po bang sabihin na kung mayroon dapat pinakamahalagang persona sa ating mga
Kristiano ay iyon ang PANGINOONG HESUS? Bakit? Dahil nauunawaan natin kung SINO SIYA AT
KUNG ANO ANG KANIYANG GINAWA?

I. THE VALUE OF CHRIST COMPARED TO THE PRIDE OF LIFE

THE YOUNG RICH RULER.

1. His Sincere Inquiry

“Good Master, What good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?”
(His inquiry is the greatest possible inquiry a man could ever do.)
1. He had the RIGHT MOTIVE. At this point, he is not looking for wealth, but for something far more
important…. He desires eternal life. Hindi girlfriend or boyfriend and nais nya rito… buhay na walang hanggan
2. He had the RIGHT ATTITUDE. Look Mark 10:17, he came running and kneeled down to Christ. He
came to Christ publicly not like Nicodemus who came to Christ by night so that no one could see him. He
called Christ Master or Teacher…..
3. He came to the RIGHT SOURCE. He came to Christ… the Source of Eternal Life… the very SAVIOR
…. Acts 4:12 At sa kanino mang iba ay walang kaligtasan: sapagka't walang ibang pangalan sa silong ng
langit, na ibinigay sa mga tao, na sukat nating ikaligtas.
4. He asked the RIGHT QUESTION.

His inquiry shows:

He has no assurance of eternal life.
He is NOT saved.

2. His Background
1. He has been under the teaching of DIFFERENT GOOD TEACHERS
2. He has gone through best EDUCATION possible during his time
3. He has gone through best TRAINING possible during his time.
4. He gained and possessed “COMPETENT SKILLS” that enable him to be a RULER.
5. He has been TAUGHT of the LAW and other RELIGIOUS MATTER in his time.
6. 5. He has been RESPECTED because of his RELIGIOUS PROFESSION and AFFILIATION

3. His Wrong Assumptions

Mat 19:20 Sinabi sa kaniya ng binata, Ang lahat ng mga bagay na ito ay ginanap
ko: ano pa ang kulang sa akin?
He thought that he knew already all things that could be possibly known.
Iniisip niyang alam na niya ang lahat ng posibleng malaman
He thought he already done all things that could be possibly done.
Iniisip niyang nagawa na niya ang lahat ng posibleng gawin
He thought he reached all that could be possibly reached.
Iniisip niyang naabot na niya ang lahat ng posibleng maabot

4. His Status
He is a RICH MAN POSSESSION Matthew 19: 22 – 23
He is a YOUNG MAN PARAMOUNT STRENGTH Matthew 19: 22
He is a RULER POSITION Luke 18: 18 – 19
But, in spite of these good things he possess, he is still asking and seeking for
ASSURANCE OF ETERNAL LIFE?
Mat 19:16 At narito, lumapit sa kaniya ang isa, at nagsabi, Guro, ano ang mabuting bagay na
gagawin ko upang ako'y magkaroon ng buhay na walang hanggan?

What PRIDE OF LIFE left in his heart is EMPTINESS!!!

There is an EMPTINESS in his heart!!!
Psa 39:5 Narito, gaya ng mga dangkal ginawa mo ang aking mga kaarawan; at ang
aking gulang ay tila wala sa harap mo: tunay na bawa't tao sa kaniyang mainam na
kalagayan ay pawang walang kabuluhan. (Selah)
Mar 8:36 Sapagka't ano ang mapapakinabang ng tao, na makamtan ang buong sanglibutan, at
mapapahamak ang kaniyang buhay?

5. His Destination

Luk 16:19 Mayroon ngang isang taong mayaman, at siya'y nagdaramit ng kulay ube at maselang
lino, at sa araw-araw ay kumakain ng sagana:
Luk 16:20 At isang pulubi na ang pangala'y Lazaro, lipos ng mga sugat, ay inilalagay sa kaniyang
pintuan,
Luk 16:21 At naghahangad na mapakain ng mga mumo na nangahuhulog mula sa dulang ng
mayaman; oo, at lumapit pati ang mga aso at hinihimuran ang kaniyang mga sugat.
Luk 16:22 At nangyari, na namatay ang pulubi at siya'y dinala ng mga anghel sa sinapupunan ni
Abraham: at namatay naman ang mayaman, at inilibing.
Luk 16:23 At sa Hades na nasa mga pagdurusa ay itiningin niya ang kaniyang mga mata, at natanaw
sa malayo si Abraham, at si Lazaro ay nasa kaniyang sinapupunan.
Luk 16:24 At siya'y sumigaw at sinabi, Amang Abraham, maawa ka sa akin, at suguin mo si Lazaro,
upang itubog niya sa tubig ang dulo ng kaniyang daliri, at palamigin ang aking dila; sapagka't
naghihirap ako sa alab na ito.
Luk 16:25 Datapuwa't sinabi ni Abraham, Anak, alalahanin mo na ikaw ay tumanggap ng iyong
mabubuting bagay sa iyong pamumuhay, at si Lazaro sa gayon ding paraan ay masasamang bagay:
datapuwa't ngayon, ay inaaliw siya rini, at ikaw ay nasa kahirapan.

Dahil sa church may mga tapat na manganagaral na nasasagi at natitira ang iyong
maling buhay at kasalanan.
CHALLENGE: Singles, may we realize that our FAITH must be given the highest
considerations in partner in life. Yong iba ayaw magentertatain ng mga nasa ministry
dahil walang maipagmamalaki. Hindi nauunawaan na ang tunay na may
maipagmamalaki eh yong may pananampalataya at nabubuhay sa pananampapalataya.

Parents, may we realize that the greatest achievement that we could reach is that we
were able to transfer our FAITH to our children.
STAGES IN OUR CALLING AS CHRISTIAN PARENTS AND TEACHERS
Psa 78:4 Hindi namin ikukubli sa kanilang mga anak, na isasaysay sa salin ng lahing darating ang
mga pagpuri sa Panginoon, at ang kaniyang kalakasan, at ang kaniyang mga kagilagilalas na mga
gawa na kaniyang ginawa.
Psa 78:5 Sapagka't siya'y nagtatag ng patotoo sa Jacob, at nagtakda ng kautusan sa Israel, na
kaniyang iniutos sa aming mga magulang, na kanilang ipabatid sa kanilang mga anak:
Psa 78:6 Upang maalaman ng lahing darating, sa makatuwid baga'y ng mga anak na ipanganganak;
na siyang magsisibangon, at mangagsasaysay sa kanilang mga anak:
Psa 78:7 Upang kanilang mailagak ang kanilang pagasa sa Dios, at huwag kalimutan ang mga gawa
ng Dios, Kundi ingatan ang kaniyang mga utos:

Note: Teaching is like planting…

An old Chinese proverb says, "One generation plants the trees, and another gets the
shade."

"What kind of trees are we planting to shade the future generation from the blistering
heat of an anti-GOD-dominated world?

II. THE WAY CHRIST PRESENTED HIS VALUE

Mat 19:22 Datapuwa't nang marinig ng binata ang ganitong pananalita, ay
yumaon siyang namamanglaw; sapagka't siya'y isang may maraming pag-aari.

He did not like eternal life upon these terms

A. SELL THOU HAST AND GIVE TO THE POOR. FORSAKE YOUR POSSESSIONS…
Sell everything you have
Forsake everything you have
Abandon everything you have
Change the source of your JOY!!!
WHAT DO YOU HAVE RIGHT NOW?
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST RIGHT NOW?
B. COME = FORSAKE THAT...
C. FOLLOW ME = CEASE TO LIVE IN YOUR OWN

THIS IS THE ESSENCE OF THE CALLING, THIS IS THE REAL ESSENCE OF FAITH…..
The calling is NOT LIKE THIS, everything is good in your life, you just LACK “ME” in your
life, ADD ME!!!
The calling is NOT TO CONTINUE IN YOUR OWN LIFE, JUST ADD ME IN YOUR LIFE!!!
The calling is to FORSAKE EVERYTHING, AND TAKE “CHRIST” ALONE!!!

You can’t mix Jesus and other things in your heart TO BRING YOU JOY.
 IT MUST BE CHRIST ALONE!!!
You can’t mix Jesus and your educational achievements
You can’t mix Jesus and your possessions
You can’t mix Jesus and your love for your good status
You can’t mix Jesus and your love for “out of season” relationship
You can’t mix Jesus and your love for “unbelieving partner”
You can’t mix Jesus and you love for your “prohibited pre-marital relationships and
activities”

You can’t add Jesus to your riches

You can’t add Jesus to your educational achievements
You can’t add Jesus to your possessions
You can’t add Jesus to your love for your good status
You can’t add Jesus to your love for “out of season” relationship
You can’t add Jesus to your love for “unbelieving partner”
You can’t add Jesus to your love for your “prohibited pre-marital relationships and
activities”

Note: THE WORST REACTION TOWARD THE VALUE OF CHRIST

WHAT IS THE REACTION OF THIS YOUNG MAN TO THE SAYING OF JESUS?
He went away sorrowful…..
He can’t leave his life FOR CHRIST
He can’t leave his sin FOR CHRIST
He can’t leave his joy FOR CHRIST
If you treat JESUS the same way, walk away sorrowful…
A rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven…

1. The Confession of our Sinfulness. This is the confession of our TRUE AND DEEPEST PROBLEM...OUR
SIN! That we came to the point of our lives that we are so sad and sorry in our rebellious living with God….
that our destiny if we continue in that kind of life is eternal destruction….
Matthew 19: 17 – 20
Here: He didn’t confess his sinfulness, his guilt, he didn’t see himself as a sinner, even though Christ
put the LAW in his front…. Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his
sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us
unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith
No matter how great our possessions are, how high our position is, how great our achievements are,
WE OUGHT TO ADMIT that we have an emptiness there in our hearts that can’t be filled by these things
mentioned.

3. The Recognition of His Supreme Worth

Matthew 19:21
The call to sell what he has and give it to the poor, followed by the call “come” and “follow” me…. is
call to RECOGNIZE HIS SUPREME WORTH….
Lets take a look again in the life of JOB….
Gaano kadali sa Dios na payagan si Satanas sa mga hiling nito na alisin ang lahat sa kanya…. If
possessions, position and lovedones are of GREAT IMPORTANCE and REALLY MATTERS IN christian life, why
would God allow Satan to take everything from Job….
Ng marinig ng mayaman ang mga salita ng Paginoong Hesus, “nakita niya na NAPAKALAKI NG
MAWAWALA SA KANYA”….. Kung ipagbili ko lahat at ibigay sa dukha, anong matitira sa akin? Paano na ako?
Malaki ang mawawala sa akin… mawawalan ng bigat ang buhay ko…
Ngunit ang panawagang ito ay hindi para sa kanyang kalugihan…. Look at the calling, “SELL THAT
THOUS HAST and GIVE TO THE POOR”, BUT I WILL BUY YOU WITH AN INCOMPARABLE PRICE….
Joh 3:16 Sapagka't gayon na lamang ang pagsinta ng Dios sa sanglibutan, na ibinigay niya ang kaniyang
bugtong na Anak, upang ang sinomang sa kaniya'y sumampalataya ay huwag mapahamak, kundi magkaroon
ng buhay na walang hanggan.
Mar 8:36 Sapagka't ano ang mapapakinabang ng tao, na makamtan ang buong sanglibutan, at mapapahamak
ang kaniyang buhay?
Joh 6:54 Ang kumakain ng aking laman at umiinom ng aking dugo ay may buhay na walang hanggan; at
siya'y aking ibabangon sa huling araw.
1Pe 1:18 Na inyong nalalamang kayo'y tinubos hindi ng mga bagay na nangasisira, ng pilak o ginto, mula sa
inyong walang kabuluhang paraan ng pamumuhay, na ipinamana sa inyo ng inyong mga magulang;
1Pe 1:19 Kundi ng mahalagang dugo, gaya ng sa korderong walang kapintasan at walang dungis, sa
makatuwid baga'y ang dugo ni Cristo:
1Co 6:20 Sapagka't kayo'y binili sa halaga: luwalhatiin nga ninyo ng inyong katawan ang Dios
Kung tutuusin, ang bilhin ang isang bagay na wala naming halaga ng NAPAKALAKING HALAGA ay isang
napakalaking pribilehiyo.
Kung ang price tag ng isang MONTERO ay 1.4 million pesos……
THE PRICE TAG OF A CHRISTIAN: “PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST”

2. The Submission to His Authority/ Lordship

Matthew 19:21
The Rich young ruler may ask, ”WHO ARE YOU TO GIVE ME SUCH KIND OF COMMAND”?
You have no authority over me, you have no authority over my possessions, you have no authority
over my position, you have no authority to dictate what should I do….
Yong mga Muslim, dahil sa napakataas ng pagtingin nila kay Allah, they could offer themselves for
“suicide bombings” for the cause of ISLAM FAITH!!!
Ngunit sa ating mga Kristiano, ibang klaseng pagpapakamatay ang hiningi ng Dios…. Ang tayo ay
mamatay sa ating sariling pagpapalakad ng ating buhay….
Do you know what will be the impact of this call?
WE ALREADY SURRENDERED EVERYTHING TO HIM AND HE HAS NOW THE AUTHORITY OVER
OUR TIME, OUR TREASURES, OUR TALENTS….
Note: JESUS CAN’T LOWER DOWN AND WATER DOWN THE SUBSTANCE OF HIS CALL….
He has authority over your life, over your treasures, over you time, over your family, over your talents,
over your hairstyle, over your clothes, over your love life…..

III. THE IMPACT OF THE VALUE OF CHRIST

Mat 19:21 Sinabi sa kaniya ni Jesus, Kung ibig mong maging sakdal, humayo ka,
ipagbili mo ang tinatangkilik mo, at ibigay mo sa mga dukha, at magkakaroon ka ng
kayamanan sa langit: at pumarito ka, sumunod ka sa akin.

WHAT THIS VERSE WANTS US TO REALIZE THE VALUE OF CHRIST IS THE

FOUNDATION GROWING CHRISTIAN LIFE!!! KAYA PALA, ANG DAPAT NATING
PAGYAMANIN AY PAG-UNAWA SA PANGINOONG HESUS.

A. ITS IMPACT IN SALVATION

Salvation is only for those who valued Christ and His Work.

A. ITS IMPACT WILL BE SEEN IN OUR GIVING

Mat 19:21 Sinabi sa kaniya ni Jesus, Kung ibig mong maging sakdal, humayo ka, ipagbili mo
ang tinatangkilik mo, at ibigay mo sa mga dukha, at magkakaroon ka ng kayamanan sa langit: at
pumarito ka, sumunod ka sa akin.
Mat 6:19 Huwag kayong mangagtipon ng mga kayamanan sa lupa, na dito'y
sumisira ang tanga at ang kalawang, at dito'y nanghuhukay at nagsisipagnakaw ang
mga magnanakaw:
Mat 6:20 Kundi mangagtipon kayo ng mga kayamanan sa langit, na doo'y hindi sumisira
kahit ang tanga kahit ang kalawang, at doo'y hindi nanghuhukay at hindi
nagsisipagnakaw ang mga magnanakaw:
Mat 6:21 Sapagka't kung saan naroon ang iyong kayamanan, doon naman doroon ang
iyong puso.
ANG ISA SA PINATUTUNAYAN NG PAGBIBIGAY AY KUNG ANO O SINO ANG ATING
PINAPAHALAGAHAN (WHAT O WHO WE REALLY VALUE MOST)

[1.] We must practically prefer the heavenly treasures before all the wealth and
riches in this world.

B. ITS IMPACT WILL BE SEEN IN OUR SOULWINNING

Mat 19:21 Sinabi sa kaniya ni Jesus, Kung ibig mong maging sakdal, humayo ka, ipagbili mo
ang tinatangkilik mo, at ibigay mo sa mga dukha, at magkakaroon ka ng kayamanan sa langit: at
pumarito ka, sumunod ka sa akin.
Mat 4:19 At sinabi niya sa kanila, Magsisunod kayo sa hulihan ko, at gagawin ko kayong mga
mamamalakaya ng mga tao.

Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge
shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
THE CHIDREN BROUGHT BY TRAVAIL OF JESUS

C. ITS IMPACT WILL BE SEEN IN OUR OBEDIENCE.

THE WAY WE RESPOND TO THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD PICTURES OUR
ATTITUDE TOWARD THE VALUE OF CHRIST.
Mat 19:21 Sinabi sa kaniya ni Jesus, Kung ibig mong maging sakdal, humayo ka, ipagbili mo
ang tinatangkilik mo, at ibigay mo sa mga dukha, at magkakaroon ka ng kayamanan sa langit: at
pumarito ka, sumunod ka sa akin.

1. Obedience in the PRINCIPLE OF RECONCILIATION – Mat. 5: 21 - 26

2. Obedience in the PRINCIPLE OF WARRING AGAINST SINFUL LUST – Mat. 5: 28 –
30
3. Obedience in the PRINCIPLE OF MARRIAGE – Mat. 5: 32 - 32
4. Obedience in the PRINCIPLE OF LOVING YOUR ENEMIES – Mat. 5: 38 – 48
5. Obedience in the PRINCPLE OF RIGHT USE OF TREASURES – Mat 6: 19 - 21
6. Obedience in the PRINCIPLE OF SERVICE – Mat 6: 1 - 17
7. Obedience in the PRINCIPLE OF LIVING BY FAITH – Mat 6: 25 – 34
8. Obedience in the PRINCIPLE OF CONTENTMENT – Mat 6: 25 - 34

CONCLUSION. The value of Christ must be studied, understood and dealt more and
more…. THAT MUST BE OUR FOCUS. OBEDIENCE IS JUST A PRODUCT OF IT!!! That is the
foundation of Christian Life.
