must meet the following specific requirements for the programme:
Alternative and international qualifications will be assessed on the equivalent
issued by the South African Qualifications Authority. Candidates may also apply
for recognition of prior learning at the Office of the Registrar. The relevant
documentation will be requested from these applicants, and these cases will be
handled on an ad hoc basis.
A National Diploma in Engineering Civil (or equivalent) is required for the B Te

(National Diploma: Engineering: Civil is required for the B Tech or equivalent
(old Higher National Diploma phased out in the early 1990 s). The old National
Diploma phased out in the 1990 s will/may require bridging subjects (each will
be evaluated on merit).
apS calculation
The calculation of an admission point score (APS) is based on a candidate s achiev
ement
in any six recognised 20-credit subjects by using the National Senior Certificat
e
Seven Point Rating Scale of Achievement. Life Orientation is excluded when calcu
lating
the APS.
The Faculty requires Mathematics for most programmes, as Mathematical Literacy
does not provide sufficient prior knowledge for higher education studies in engi
neering.

communication of results
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements will be informed accordingly in an
official letter from the Office of the Registrar. This letter will include the t
est dates for
the academic proficiency test.
b. Duration and presentation: Three years full-time (four semesters of theoretic

training and two semesters of experiential learning) for the National Diploma.
Two years part-time for the bachelor s degree, offered in block release and four
block weeks per semester
c. experiential learning: Registration for experiential learning is subject to a
